The mechanic knows when to strike...

Post by Bailes1992 »

Had some work done on the 406 in March before I got rid, new UJ in the steering column, new track rod ends and wheel alignment.
Usually I have to remind him to bill me, but this time I forgot.
A bill turned up today for it

Proper old school mechanic. Semi retired, works from his garage. The garage is almost as big as his house!

Usually I have to chase him up for bills but as I got the new car I totally forgot  Abit annoying but such is life!

Old school, like me :D

The worst thing about the job is chasing up payment, can be a real pain :frown:

I'm out £80 for one job plus £70 for another, but I've been out up to a grand at some point for several weeks...when I used to do the fleet work.

He's great for servicing and most stuff on the car.
But my car is still going to to Ford to have the two timing belts done :supafrisk: I don't think I could trust anyone else with the job, especially as I have that bloody belt in an oil jacuzzi or some nonsense.

The top timing belt is a very easy job, but I've never done the oil bath one.

It would be interesting to see a how-to.

BTW, I intend to let my son take over from me soon, I'll just be his mentor, I'm 60 next year and don't want to be crawling under cars much.

Oil oil bath belt is just like a timing chain. There is no difference between the chain and the belt.

Other than the fact one cassette has a chain and another a belt. At least if it is taken to ford the belt is warrantied for the 10yrs/125k.
