You're meant to call them Avtogaz now, but everyone knows what they really are.

Bummer, downgrading from a 406 to a Lada
if your downgrading that much you might as well just get a horse and cart :cheesy:

Yep, saw that and the guy who gingerly took his e-bay aquired FL out on it's first Family run - only to find an oil leak so bad it was dripping off the rear tow-bar when they got there

They read like a complete no-no don't they but you see plenty about :| I dunno but something keeps telling me "Japanese" and kinda Rav-4 ish mate? or did we dismiss those? can't remember, probably eleventy hundred pages ago

V power hay :cheesy: :cheesy: , tesco spend £50 and get a free bale of silage.

There is hardly any freelanders round here, the vets had a fleet of them but they gave too much trouble to be kept so now they have a fleet of vw caddies and one really old but indestructible looking land cruiser amazon.
The japanese are really the best if your looking for a dependable 4x4.
what about mitsubishis outlander is about the size of a freelander, the 4007 and c crosser are the same thing only with the 2.2 hdi.

Too big, too expensive  The problem with the RAVs is everyone thinks Japanese cars are good and reliable so even old crap is really pricey, whereas Freelanders are a disaster waiting to happen (which I'm hoping isn't necessarily the case) so they don't expect silly money for them. They're still pricey but not as bad as anything Japanese. Hell, even Front errors are more expensive, but then they're jur-man

Hopefully I won't be trading "up" to a Lada, the idea is to run 2 cars for a while until the wifey gets used to driving, then we can either flog her heap and both drive the Pug (my back doesn't like this idea), flog the Pug and keep her heap if it's proving good enough or flog both of them and buy a car we both like. If there is such a thing.

But isn't that all for a valid reason? you might buy a Freeloader for £2K less but then spent a million slutty's on repairs and glueing back things what fell off and such :|

I followed one of these Mazda's home last night and thought of you......

Well, I was thinking that it might not always be the case, however I've just been to see my mate Goran at the car spares shop. I had my camera ready and when I said "Freelander TD4" I took a picture of him but, rather than the look of shocked disgust I was expecting, I just got a blank stare - never had any dealings with them, never had one in the workshop, no idea. But he knew a guy who had one and gave him a call. What went wrong with it? Ok, what didn't go wrong with it.. 2001 TD4 manual, problems with fuel system, suspension, transmission (including a new gearbox), electronics, etc. etc. etc. In the end he sold it for peanuts & was glad to see the back of it.

And so ends another chapter of this farce

It's also a Ford Explode or something like that.

Ah, it's the Maverick 2, the 1 being the hugely uneconomical with big old school diesels and pig ugly Nissan Terrano. Hold on... It's 4.4 meters long - I think that'll be it :(

Length
Light bulb 4395 mm
RAVioli 4220 mm
Entrail - 4630 mm

I'd really need to fit the wife in one but there's none for sale in our neck of the woods :(

Still struggling to find the logic in replacing a 406 (and an estate, nonetheless) "because it's too big" with a vehicle that is physically larger in every dimension...

I notice there's now a off-road-ish version of the 508 coming along - http://www.peugeot.co.uk/vehicles/peuge ... t-508-rxh/ - wonder if it's any good? Can't buy 'em yet and they're bound to be quite pricey when they do arrive, but I would love to see if they're any good cross-country.

Idea: take a 508 RXH out for a test drive from a Pug dealership, then drive into a dirty muddy quarry without telling the sales rep. When he's done screaming, wetting himself, and demanding to know what the hell you're playing at, just show him the photo from Pug's website
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.

There are similar cars, it's just a far smaller market. The prices here are between 5x and 10x the prices there. Importing one just isn't an option, it would work out stupidly expensive.

What if the car was kept registered on uk plates, and you just said it was from a holiday?
Isn't the whole point of the EU to allow us to buy cars from different countries easier.

I posted a link way, way up there :arrowu: about a guy trying to import a car here, apart from the massive cost, he spent months been sent around different offices picking up different forms and presenting them all over the place. And being told they were the wrong forms and being sent to more offices for the right ones. I wouldn't bother reading it, it's massive but you read what I need to do to just buy one so you can imagine how much fun they had making it even more complicated to buy one from another country.
FarmerPug wrote:What if the car was kept registered on uk plates, and you just said it was from a holiday?
I've been here almost 8 years, I think the holiday is well and truly over. I am allowed to drive a foreign-registered car here for 6 months, after than I have to either import it or take it home. And I like being legal, I really don't want to go back to Blighty.

I'll let you know when Croatia joins the EU... (get your tickets for the Titanic here!)
