Has anyone got any ideas on how this should be done, having no experience myself with this type of job on my Peugeot 406 diesel 1998 lx. Haynes manual not very helpful on this topic, Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Do you mean the bellow type things on each steering arm which are attached to the end of the rack at one end and the track rod at the other?
If so, to get those off you''ll have to crack off the track rod end ball joint, undo the joint off the arm, then slide the bellows all the way off the end.
thank you for your help. Its the bellows/gaitors that protect the rack joints NOT the ball joints at the track rod ends that fits to the hub. How do i find out if my steering rack is of the variable or invariable type
If you have access to Service Box, type in your VIN and under the 'Characteristics' section it will tell you. If you don't have such access, pm me your VIN and I can look it up for you.
