Broken?

Hi all can anyone please tell me what this is and is it supposed to be open like this?(Pug 406 2.0 petrol)

Hi It is an engine breather if it was me i would take the rubber tube off where the breather goes in as it looks like it is blocked and give it a good clean out also it looks like a piece has broken off the bottom of the breather most probably still in the pipe

Thanks for your reply I'll give it a good clean later ;) and now I know the name of it I can search for a new one if it broke

How important is this part do I need to rush out and find a new breather or will it be alright for a while?

I managed to pick a breather up from Partmart for a fiver But the engine won't start while it's connected can anyone shed any light on this please?
