Model of car?

Plastic or metal lock ring?

Usual ballache is that the bottom of the fuel inlet (where the gauze is) is spring loaded and pushes up one side of the "head" of the tank gauge/pump.

Line it up, press down, slide ring over fittings, press down more, use your third hand to "start" the ring off, swear at job, have a brew and do it tomorrow ;)

My last resort before fitting a new tank is this......

Get 2 jubilee clips the size of the plastic ring....cut through the plastic ring (in one place only) with a junior hacksaw and trim off the rough bits....fit the jubilee clips over the plastic ring loosely and fit the ring....it will screw on easy now that it has a split in it.
When it is nearly all the way down tighten the jubilee clips until the ring is fairly tight to screw up the last part of the thread, when you are at the bottom of the thread and the ring is tight, tighten the jubilee clips as tight as possible, this will hold the ring as tight as if it did not have a split.

Do this repair at your own risk.

Mmm. I cant understand that you can't actually fit it on at all. I heard this is a problem though. It also affects fuel readings. My second D9 had a protective shield riveted over the fuel pump. Perhaps you can (longshot here) remove the tank and beat the panel back up?

Hey all,

I'm having a similar problem, did you ever get this sorted or did you use jubilee clips?

I can get the plastic ring started but it will not screw down enough to hold the pump. This is the ring that came with the pump, I had to cut the original to get it off! I'm hoping that I may be able to pack it with some extra 'O' rings to tighten the pump down?

Any other ideas?

Cheers,

Danny.

Hi guys.

Would like to know the outcome of this, as this is also happening to me. :frown:

Just been to see one of the local garages, and he says that he did one on a renault, and it was a right barsteward.

Right then.

The net result is, I phoned the local stealers up this morning, and as it goes against the grain of me using them, they have agreed to do it for me, and it should be about £20. Now ordinarily I wouldn't go down this route, but as it was hacking me off big time, and I need the car back on the road like yesterday, it was the only route to take.

They rung me this afternoon, and said it should be done tomorrow.
