Removing the amp from a coupe

Post by mjb »

DON'T REMOVE THE BRACKET!!!!

If you undo the 2 nuts holding it on, the threads will disappear and you'll hear a clang as a ~12x1" metal bar with 2 screw threads drops onto your exhaust  Refitting involves:

removing the wheel and wheelarch liner
stripping the insulation from 2 foot of thin gauge stranded wires
separating the wire threads
anchoring the strands to spanners
feeding the strands down through the holes in the boot
tieing the strands around the bar and wrapping them around the threads
pulling the wire up from the boot, carefully manoeuvring it up the tiny gap at the side of the bumper
trying for 20 mins to get the bar's threads through the holes in the boot
then getting the nuts back on
before wondering how to get the mount between the nuts and the holes, giving up and stuffing a glove behind the amp to stop it wobbling around

Nightmare.

DON'T REMOVE THE BRACKET!!!!

DON'T REMOVE THE BRACKET!!!!

Later I'll post pictures of the above, the pin-out for the amp, examples of how to test all the speakers and input lines.

Is coupe different from saloon then? I removed the amp with the bracket it sits on and nothing fell anywhere. This now houses some cross-overs and a small Kenwood amp.

There are some cracking pinout diagrams on the coop site, but would be good to see them here.

Replacing the rear 6x9's with your own ones is an absolute nightmare though. I had to drill some holes to put the new speakers on but upon refitting, absolutely everything rattles back there. No amount of sound proofing would help (but knowing how to properly fabricate your own brackets probably would  ). Had to put original ones back in - they are not so bad anyway.

I don't know - I've not had a saloon with an amp

Well the amp pin-out on there's wrong unless there's more than one revision of amp. For a start it's got the wrong number of pins

I'll be passing round my version soon enough :) I spent long enough working everything out so why not
