front Hub removal

Post by swervygerdy »

Evening all

I want to take the front hub of my 406, as its the same same as the 205 1.9gti that I managed to ruin the threads on.Its just the hub itself that I want.

I've removed the hub nut, the caliper and the brake disk - do I just gently tap it of the end of the drive shaft with a mallet?

Thanks

Gerard

Are you sure? I know most 306 hubs are the same (16mm balljoint) but I thought 406 hubs were different?

Get a friend/neighbour/jack handle to press the brake pedal while you undo the nut?

put a screw driver thru the caliper into the vents on the disc to stop it turning.

This works a treat :arrowu: Used it on a scrapper to undo crankshaft pulley nut with the assistance of a scaffold pole over my breaker bar :) - Really handy finding that lying against the fence too:)

On closer inspection, scaffold pole was stamped, "STOLEN FROM BLOGGS & CO 0157...." :P

Be careful using a screwdriver through the caliper into the disc slots, this could cause the disc to fracture, no problem on a scrapper, but....

I have put the wheel bolts back in and lodged a crowbar between the wheel bolts and the floor, then fitted a long bar and socket onto the nut, then stood on the bar to "crack" the nut free.
