I was wondering that, there's no point in spending ages describing engines as they're alrady done in great detail on the "real" Wiki. I just wanted to move straight along to the "how to fix it" stuff but I've no idea where to go for that.

Btw the trim levels are all on parkers.co.uk (e.g. http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/equipment ... eriv=25329)

Nutski - any chance of "borrowing" Wikipedia's "Stub" template? Oh, and their "Catdiffuse" template? :cheesy:

I'm getting the hang of the Category system; note the "Electronics" category, with the "In-Car Audio" subcategory, which has a "Head Units" article in it. More simple than I thought, which is good as it was worrying me a little. It's good, because you can put "" at the bottom of an article about head gaskets (or something) and MediaWiki will automatically sort it out so that if you click the "Engines" category, you'll be able to see that article, and all other articles about engines, sorted into alphabetical order 8)

I'm hoping that we can all develop the list of categories on the front page so that they're useful, easy to navigate, and stuffed to the gills with useful info. If anyone wants to add extra stuff, please do (cos I know roughly sod all about cars :cheesy:)

On the Main Page, click the "Edit" link at the top right.

Scroll down the editor window until you see "*Wheels"

Copy that line and paste it on the line above that (as "S" is alphabetically before "W" :cheesy:), and replace both instances of "Wheels" with "Steering and Suspension".

Click "Preview" at the bottom to ensure your change went in OK, then when you're happy, click "Save", and that makes your change go live!

No worries i'll see if i can 'borrow' them, although i find when i 'borrow' something i have to 'borrow' about 10 more to get it working, will try and get it done sometime tonight.

Ok, i'll give this one a whirl :)

On the same row as the Knowlegebase header you will see an edit button, click on this to take you into the code.....
We can stick it under Gearbox/transmission, so in the code look for the header or what you want to put it under:

Code: Select all

Knowledge Base (incl. How-To's)
*Bodywork
**D8 Models (Pre-1999)
**D9 Models (November 1999 Onwards)
*Engines
**Petrol
**HDi
**Turbodiesel
*Gearbox/Transmission
**Automatic
**Manual
*Interior Styling
**Controls (Gear-Stick, Pedals, Steering Wheel)
**Gauges
**Seats
The * indicates the level depth in the information,
* Is top level
** Is 2nd level
*** Is 3rd level
etc....

Code: Select all

*Gearbox/Transmission
So as with what Highlander said above will help with auto sorting articles

Using this format you would want:

Code: Select all

*Steering And Suspension
Then you can add subcategories.... (obviously naming them anything you like)

Code: Select all

**Steering
**Suspension
Putting into the code like this....

Code: Select all

*Gearbox/Transmission
**Automatic
**Manual
*Steering And Suspension
**Steering
**Suspension*Interior Styling
**Controls (Gear-Stick, Pedals, Steering Wheel)
**Gauges
**Seats
Click save and it should be fine!
I haven't tested this, just my understanding of Highlanders work :)

Steve - give it a go :)

I'm a computer tech, so I probably make it sound harder than it is. Really :)

If you still don't manage it, then why not post here what you want to post there, and I'll put it in for you?

I've added the category, all those lines of code looked scarey but it's a piece of cake (umm, is there a way you can protect all your hard work for thenext time I try anything?)

Not sure about sub-categories, steering, front sus, rear sus? I dunno

Steve,

Don't worry about it - I can fix any broken content, and anyway, WikiMedia automatically catalogues changes - so I can compare changes and revert any errant changes as needed :)

Well done; you've added that in just the right way. You can add sub-categories in much the same way as you did the main Steering/Suspension category.

Just below where you added "*Steering/Suspension", add these lines:

Code: Select all

**Steering
**Front Suspension
**Rear Suspension
When you save that, you'll see there are three new sub-categories of the Steering/Suspension page. When you go to create one of those category pages (by clicking on the red-coloured link), then you can put this line at the bottom of the page in order to group them into the main Steering/Suspension category (does this make sense?) :

Cheers
Graeme
