tensioner / damper

hi all does anyone know what this part is called and how you go about getting it off as it s making the engine rattle on tickover - i ve undone the bottom and top bolts and hat it all loose but just cant seem to get it out - the spring connects to a tensioner for the aux belt - has anyone had this prob? Also any idea how much one is?

I think it's called a short section of garden hose... or did you mean something in the other picture?

Looks like a bit of garden hose to me too (hint: it's not the same as the thumbnail)

HA HA sorry chaps - the thumbnail ya can see is the actual spring im after but it connects to the tensioner in the other image - it s all one unit!
Just cant work out how to get it off!

You will need to remove the tensioner from the damper bit. Not 100% sure how it's done as I just seen the part in 2 sections as the garage had already removed it. It's bloody expensive from Peugeot, but there's a guy on eBay that does them for about £50 or so. Chances are the bush will have worn away on the inside on the bottom of that damper part, and if it was as bad as mine, then it will probably have eaten away through the metal part of the aux belt tensioner so that will need replaced aswell.

thanks for the diagram - you've got the part spot on - does anyone know how the spring seperates from the tensioner wheel - it would be a massive help?

Once you have undone the bolt for the tensioner wheel, and both bolts on the damper, then you should have a bit of play in them and you should be able to seperate them. As far as I am aware, they just kinda of fit together, and a bit of jiggery pokery should seperate them. Like I said though, if the damper bit is as worn as mine was, then they can be a bugger to seperate as they keep getting caught when trying to move them apart. I think you have to undo all the bolts and then both units start to move, then you can play about and get them to seperate then. Like I said, the garage did this on mine, and not me so I can't be 100% on it.

Hi mate - interesting that - i just undid the top bolt on the damper and the long one below the tensioner - i had a fair bit of movement but couldn't get them apart so i'll try it with the tensioner wheel off - do you have any idea what sort of nut holds the wheel on by any chance ie; normal/torque etc.

I did not remove the roller itself, just the complete 2 part (parts 3 & 5 in the diagram above) assembly. I would imagine the roller is held on by a circlip, but I did not look very closely.

The fact that part 3 (including the roller) is shown as one bit suggests you won't be able to order a new roller on its own anyway.
