im sure i read on here not so long ago that you could swap a chip over between units to save having the unit recoded.
is this correct? and if so does anyone have a image of the chip that needs swapping?
my tape player has lost the rear chanels and have got a CD player to replace it but the only place near me want £50 to VIN code it to my car (after quoting me £28 - so had a disagreement and told him to not bother!)
or failing that anyone know of anywhere that will be able to do it around essex on between dec 31st and Jan 2nd for less than £50?

I'd guess that's the difference between a code (4 numbers entered with the channel buttons) and linked (no code to enter) I had a Google but didn't come up with much, apart from a company in Sheffield that'll do it for 30 quid. I suppose you need to be more specific and keep trying over the phone. Or you could ring this company in Sheffield (or similar) and see if they can tell you what you need to do but I'd think this chip is a tiny SMD - surface mounted device - i.e. it'll be a bugger to solder without a magnifying glass, a tiny iron and a very steady hand.
