probably not. Very rare for them to go on the 406, even with lot of mileage, normally sticky rear brakes.
I'd guess its a 36 (?) and will be very tight!

Re: rear wheel bearing
Looking about on Google everyone seems to list a 36mm for Peugeots. Can't you measure it?
The torque setting is 202 lbf ft
Msr Bell is correct, check out the brake if you didn't already.

Re: rear wheel bearing
I have this on my MOT advisery "rear wheel hub" it doesn't say n/s or o/s.
After reading this thread what do you mean STICKY rear brakes ??? as I will check that before trying to find a 36mm socket

Re: rear wheel bearing
shoes rubbing, bent or rusty backplate, stuck calliper. Get it in the air and spin it, see if you can spot anything they might have interpreted as a bearing. Rather than forking out for the tool and the diamond-encrusted bearing for no reason (other than the mot place was drumming up some work
)

Re: rear wheel bearing
Steve I done what you said, put her in the air, and got my compressor and blew air everywhere, up,down,front ,rear, luckily I did put a face mask on first as I could not hear ANY noise either forward or back when I turned the both rear wheels. So after tapping and giving it a very good blow job [wait for it ]
I took it for the MOT and she flew through. Nothing was mentioned about the bearing

Re: rear wheel bearing
The rear bearings are usually sound these days, I think it will just need a brake overhaul on the rears - brake wash, copper slip that kind of thing.
