This is my first post, i just found the site - so first of all - I wanted to say hello to everyone.
I bought my second Peugeot 406 1.9TD back in march. It's a 97 exceutive model with 95.000on the clock. Its now my fourth Peugeot in all, I've also had a 106 1.4d, and a 407sw 136bhp(company car).
I do a lot of miles in around the city and last night the car suffered a really big loss of power - felt like i was driving with the handbrake on (i was'nt). I flicked through the trusty Haynes manual and it suggested fuel starvation, so I opened the fuel filter housing and there was a rush of air. Checked the fuel filter - it was clean and fine. The car seemed to run fine for a while after that but as i was coming home i noticed the car to be down on power again. Any idea's what could be causing the problem?
any help much appreciated!

Re: 1.9TD power loss
Blocked fuel pick up? Blocked line?? Could it be worth changing the fuel filter anyway?

Re: 1.9TD power loss
Sounds like it could be air in the fuel line if you say after it release it was fine for a bit, suggesting you might have a slight leak in the fuel line (i.e. the priming valve or a return line)
Does it start well?
Also check the turbo-intercooler and the rubber hose that comes off the top of the fuel pump onto the intercooler ducting, splits or leaks could cause power loss

Re: 1.9TD power loss
Changed the fuel filter, primed and bled the fuel line, the engine runs fine for a bit - then the power drops off again.
Another problem is the fuel consumption - I'm only gettin around 30mpg - which is starange - if the problem was fuel starvation - i'd have thought my mpg figures would have been higher!
