well if it is roughly 3nz$ to the pound then that works out about £1300 here
it's not the cheapest pug around but alot of it depends on the state of the car i've not looked at the pics yet
another thing is if it's a car you really like and you don't mind paying that kinda cash for it then go for it
from an owners point of veiw i've had my 406 for about 4 months and yeah it has a couple of little problems but so far it has started every morning without fail it's comfy to drive it gets great mpg i don't feel like i've been thrown through a neuclear blast zone after i've finished a long trip and i would rather have it than the knackered old vectra i used to have

hope this helps

OK, The car looks in mint condition inside and out, the engine sounded good, and the auto changes so smooth you cant feel it.

cool, Ill let you guys know how it is on the Monday (if the check is all good) after Ive brought it.

O yes, is there a knack to opening the boot? for some reason i couldn't open it (stupid french.. or me..) if the car is unlocked so is the boot? just use the button to open it??

Is it NZ new or a grey import from Japan?

The ST is a cross between LX and GLX spec - we get things such as the rear sun blind but no trip computer on the D8!

When was the last WOF done over there - I'm no expert on the NZ market but your testing scheme seems more strict than the one we have in Australia! For 4k its cheap as but remember - the AL4 is prone to failure if the incorrect fluids have been used during servicing of the gearbox!

Airbag lights can be a sign that the pretensioners have been set off, replaced and not reset properly! Then again, it could be something as simple as a connection under the seat!

Whats the service history like on it?

Not necessarily - there's a lot more than the exchange rate to consider. It depends on things like the popularity/rarity of the car in the country and more importantly the economy (is $4000 enough to buy a house or a burger?), etc
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

That's pretty much my exact car! Mileage, model, year. I bought it 3.5 years ago. The brake fail comes up now and then, but its an electrical fault on mine at least.

Things I've changed are:

- Brakes
- Fuel pump
- something called an "idle regulator" (sorry don't know the english name)

Mine just turned 190k from 105 when I bough it. I drive hard, and have very few problems:)

From what I've gathered the "ST" model has at least:
- Automatic climate
- Rain sensor
- Fancy stereo

Some other small things I can't remember:o

Buy it and good luck:)

Hey,

Its NZ new, also only had 1 owner. has alwasy gone though WOF fine, (just got it last month) How hard is it to find parts in aussie? they expensive? What do you mean by incorrect fluids, as far as i know its always been serviced at a pug place in wellington (capitial). It was the connection under the seat :D (so the guy says) Is it a D8 or D9? so its like the better model? Remeber, this is in Km not miles. 60m is 100km. So, you guys reacon its gud?

our money is about the same as yours is tbh as in, $9 buys the best Mc donndls burger :D as i take it 9 pounds does to.

No, the money is not the same as ours - For every $1 AUD - It's $1.30NZ... :cheesy:

The parts are easy to get in Australia - We order them either through Peugeot, Caravelle Imports in Melbourne, Auto France in Sydney or Dapco in Sydney. Are you in Auckland - might wanna become a member of the Peugeot Club and go along to one of the meetings to see where other people get their cars serviced - many people steer clear of the dealers due to the fact that they are more expensive than a Peugeot Specialist...

406's are rare here - you blokes in the UK may see them every day on the roads, we see them every week!

Have you got a www.trademe.co.nz link? There are quite a few 406's on there?

Thermostat Housing: Signs of seepage - Change seal (and thermostat, while you're there.)
Transmission Test Performance: Kickdown not operating - probably the switch if the rest of the gearbox is ok but best to talk to an auto box specialist.
Water Pump (Where Visible) Drive Belt: Noisy, Investigate - It's driven by the timing belt! If this is the aux belt then it's either falling apart (you'd have thought the guy would notice) or the tensioner's failing. Needs doing pronto if it is. Budget for a timing belt change to be on the safe side though.
It's got an oil leak! I'll let you into a secret, most of ours have too. Depends how bad it is but I suppose if it's dripping on the ground walk away.

It's really up to you but, after a few phone calls, you could go to the seller with this little lot and see if they're willing to give you a substantial discount. If not, move onto the next car.

Hello. Yes i think ill just walk away. With it already having problems, who knows what will come up next. Could cost more than the car to fix.

Ah well, that's what these checks are for.

Thank you for all your help, i really appreciate it. Ill let you know what car I'm going for next (even if it isn't a peugeot :D)
