I was just wondering how many budding grease monkeys there are out there? The reason being is that if we get enough people then we can register the club with Opie Oils and get 10% + off their cheap prices for oil, filters, plugs etc.

I do all my own servicing and repairs on both mine and her indoors pugs.For my sins i also do a lot of other services aswell,what really helps is having a halfords trade card.You wouldnt believe the discount it gets you!!!

I second this. I just got my trade card and bought a wiper blade set and two 510 side light bulbs.
Total price £23.99.
Trade card price £10.48!!!

The bulbs which were £2.99 for two, but with a trade card they were 88 PENCE!!! Amazing! To think Halfords still makes a profit on those its shows you how much money that must make on stuff like that!

I got my trade card from joining a *cough* vauxhaul club forum, *cough* but I know they can be given out if you take a wodge of recent car parts receipts to halfords and they can then give you one as a heavy DIY'er.

I will see if I can find out how the other forum owners got the card. I know they received a batch from Halfords and registered all the users with them first, before sending out the cards. I had to pay £15 to Join the forum as a proper member which gave me the benefit of the stickers, welcome pack and the trade card, so I dont know if there is a cost to the forum for them to receive the cards.

Alternatively, the there are a few others ways to get the cards:
1: you can be a heavy diy user, so by taking in a load of old car parts receipts into halfords and speak to the parts counter person there, they should give you a card. Best to go on a weekday when the Saturday numbty isn't the one that will be serving you.
2: You can apparently buy pay slips of ebay for a few quid, which will allow you to create a wage slip for the "garage" you work for as a mechanic. Show this to the parts counter at halfords and you should get a trade card.

I went to the forum above because it was quicker and easier, and I used to have a VX Nova in the past so thought I could help other people if I really felt generous!!

I think owners clubs should be given, say, 20 cards per club and Halfords should benefit from the free advertising/comments and general goodwill of it all - I mean we're not exactly going to complain are we?

Tell you what though, discounts like that would make a hell of a difference. Due to their high prices I pretty much only use Halfords when all others are closed (and I used to work there! )... But it's close to home, open sensible hours and there's always somewhere to park. I'd love it to be my first port of call.
