96 Exec Turbo vs 00 HDi LX

I'm confused.

I was offered a straight swap on a 96 Exec Turbo in apparently excellent condition (judging by the pics) with 107k and full history with ££££ spent on repairs over the years.

I have a 00 HDi LX with 153k and it is mint except for some laquer bubbling on the bonnet and bumper.

I'm in a Quagmire. The most I'll spend in the transaction is about €700 so thats not too bad. I want a bit more excitement in my life. Will I take the plunge and realise that I'll get nothing for it on the other side and I might get something for the HDi. I'm going back four years to an older design too (which still looks damn sexy IMO) Also how are they on fuel???? Basically, Do the costs outweigh the benefits? Remember I'm coming from a 90hp diesel.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated

I'd take the tubby over the hdi90 any day. However having said that you will be able to get shot of the hdi for a lot more that you'll be able to buy a turbo exec for.

Spend a week or so watching prices of both on ebay - 'watch' them and the finishing price will show in 'my ebay' when they're over

No. t'll cost me €700 extra on insurance and tax

tubby AND £700 for an '00 hdi90 would be a fair trade as long as the tubby's in good condition and doesn't need a cambelt tomorrow

Bugger that then. If you want a tubby, sell your hdi and buy one. The insurance isn't that much on them but the difference in price will mean you'll have plenty for tax and insurance. D9s still fetch a hell of a lot more than D8s and 2nd hand diesels are always popular

You can get one for 1/10th that price, and it wouldn't have a taxi steering wheel attached

Well guys I totally appreciate the fact that you can pick up a newer tubby exec for less than £1,000, but they are ten a penny in en-ger-land and there is none here so thats why he's charging so much. Money isnt an issue if he's doing a straight swap as I'd be lucky to get €3,000 for my HDi. But I dont want to spend any money here as I am a lowly student and cant afford it. What I am trying to get out of this topic is:

Is the 2.0 Turbo engine really good enough to sacrifice a newer car?

AND

If there was no complications with Tax or insurance. Would any of you swap my car for this one?

Well I've got the tubby and I will say it's a superb motor. My previous 406 was the 1.8 so I was a very happy bunny

Why don't you buy a tubby in england and take it back on the ferry? Surely that's going to be a cheaper option
