Right, I've owned this car since I sold my Legacy GT. The Legacy was an estate also, but the sound quality was so much better, and I mean SO MUCH BETTER! It had the stock speakers that were fitted in 1994. Basically 2 pairs of components.
I am bitterly disappointed that 6 years after Subaru made this car, Peugeot can't even be bothered to make a basic car with a half decent stereo system that has been proven possible by other manufacturers years before hand.....
Is there any possible way of upgrading these stock items in the D9 estate to some sort of resemblance of a system, from at least say the 80's?
What size units are in these Pugs? And do people have any suggestions of what works well for said upgrade? I do have an old pioneer sub kicking around in a sealed box, and an amp left over from my previous years of fettling with cars, is it worth installing it? i.e. will it actually do anything being in an estate?
I'm running a Panasonic CQ-C5303N HU if that's any help to anyone....
Cheers

Re: D9 Estate speakers....
I know what you mean, bass, what bass? The ones in the door are a standard 17cm, with the tweeters in the dash so there's all sorts of possibilities. The ones in the rear quarters, well, my granny had more powerful speakers in her b&w telly. They're 10cm (IIRC) so there's not much you can do. Alternatives? Big box in the boot, pretty stupid in an estate. A sound shelf, yeah, good luck. On my D8 I put 2 more 17cms in the boot lid, I'm not sure if the D9's the same but there were holes in the inner pannel already, all I did was (carefully) cut matching holes in the trim and fiddle the wires in from the boot (bit of a bodge I'm afraid). You won't be winning any sound offs but a huge improvement over the original.

Like your thinking, good suggestions too. I shall have a look into that. I've got some Audiobahn components left over from an old project too that I've just found, so hopefully they may squeeze in the fronts.
I wonder if there's any room in the rear doors for a similar cut and shut approach to getting another set of components in? Failing that, I'm sure the boot lid skin can be opened up with a body panel saw to accommodate a pair of 6x9's or similar!
Cheers for the point in the right direction. I shall post up some pics of the progress when I get started!

Re: D9 Estate speakers....
I got the d8 estate, all i did was disconnect the speakers in the pillar. got a pair of 6x9's and some 'pods' and put them on the parcel shelf.

take a look at how i put em in.
angled slightly upwards and inwards, so that the focal point is at headrest height of the front seats.
and theres gonna be an amp on the shelf too, make them 6x9's work closer to there 300w rating, not 50w

Re: D9 Estate speakers....
When i put the speakers in, i made sure that there was a load of wire left, just in case the shelf had to move.
The only b*st*rd is, i have to turn the stereo down as i deafen myself with the speakers inches away from my head
But i have got a towbar, so anythin that could be bigger than the boot, goes in the oldmans trailer, lol.

Re: D9 Estate speakers....
I've changed the components in the front doors over, but what my question now is, where is the crossover for these and the tweeters? (assuming there is one?).
I want to put the Audiobahn tweeters in the dash, but when I took the old ones out, they look as if they may have the crossover built inline with them?
Can anyone tell me if there are crossovers before the components in the doors and/or the tweeters in the dash? I have a feeling that there is slightly too much treble coming from my mid range speakers!!
