Hi there, if the base is amplified, you don't really wanna be putting a long whip on it.

Errrrmmmm

OK, I don't really have any idea, just thought this fred looked like a nice place to make a post....

Dervpower, are you optimistic about actually getting an answer here?

This has come up before, and the bloke got so pissed off waiting for help he went off and sorted it himself and then never came back

I'm not suggesting you do this of course. I think it was ''chilli'' on here. Try searching for all his posts.

The aerial amplifiers are well know for going. I'd try there first. Also, pull the radio out and make sure th aerial is securely in the socket, that cured a problem I had.

when you refer to the aerial amplifier do you mean the one in the antennae base? if so how do you tell if it has one fitted?

If you take out the rear light assembly (at least int he coupe), you can get to the base of the aerial. If you pull the cable, you'll come to a plug and socket, about 4 inched along. If you have an electric tester, test the voltage on the cable and it should have some voltage on it. That'll tell you the radio is sending power tot he aerial to power the small aerial amp.

I assume it's a D8 then, you could try the front interior light.

Take a look at the aerial on my car in this picture. The base of the aerial is a chunky triangular bit of black plastic. The aerial then screws into this. The base is the amp.

from memory someone who had this problem changed the aerial base (inc amp) and it fixed their problem.

I believe you remove the interior light, theres about 4 inch of wire to a joint that can be seperated and a nut that holds the mounting on. So its easy job. I believe he reported the base/mount was only £4 or something, don't hold me to this!

To be honest i am having the same problem with mine, can't even get radio 1 in some places! I plan to do this next service, can't be bother to go to dealers just to get this bit.

Any tips on the best way to remove interior light with out damaging the clips/light are welcome!
