ICE upgrade.....sort of....

Post by Foghorn Leghorn »

Car came fitted with the cassette head unit (still to this day never used by my good self) and Clarion 6 Disc changer.

The radio works well and the sound quality is more than good enough for me. Sadly the CD player is not all it could be, it plays original CD's fine but sucks donkey balls when it comes to playing copies (I don't like leaving originals in the car). Bloody thing jumps like crazy even if you break wind whilst parked :cheesy: . I'll have to have a stern word with Mrs Leghorn :frown: . I also got fed up of lugging CD's etc back and to when I wanted a change, or even worse I'd forget completely.

So, I got myself a rather spiffy Sony Ericsson W810i Walkman phone, upgraded the memory card to 2gb, approximately 50 albums worth of storage space. Works a treat as an mp3 player and camera, apparently you can make phone calls with it too.......meh.

Finally got round to ordering a hands free kit, cradle, aerial and speaker connection cable for it. Works a treat!! Phone calls and all music output through the front set of speakers (shame not rear too, but can't have everything). The volume is great too, just as loud as the original stereo (clearer too) and you don't even need the original stereo turned on.

If any of you have decent handsets with good playback facilities they are well worth looking at as an alternative to an expensive new headunit etc

Very easy, pop your head unit out, unplug the ISO speaker connector. Plug the ISO speaker connector form the sony system into the head unit, then plug the ISO speaker connector you removed initially from the head unit into the other end of the sony system. Ta Da!! all done.

Nothing wrong with them, just the sony system only outputs to the fronts.

What hands free kit are you using and will it fit my trustly Sony K750i phone? Where do the wires go (I hate seeing wires!)?

I used Sony W800 for my headunit replacement on my Hyundai .... (yes i did say Hyundai). The head unit was crap, the speakers doesn't even have a bass response using the original head unit.

with the W800 (walkman), they got good volume and output gain. also have equilizer as well. good value too. bluetooth and 2 Mega Pixels camera.
Cars, Computers, Chicks, 3C for a complete life. add a number 6 between them then you get double pleasure. hahaha!
