dear members of pug406.
i kindly reqeust your advice and expertise i have a 03/406 exec. 2.0 HPI on extended warranty, since a few weeks whenever i turn the steeringwheel i hear a metallic noise and feel it in the steeringwheel as wel, i have seen three different mechanics who gave me three different opinions, 1 trackrod end on left hand side has teeth missing, 2 balljoint gone, 3 steering rack gone. has any of you had similar problem or can you identify the problem from this. i dont want to go to main dealers and look like the fool. car only done 20.300 miles can it already have a problem like one of the above?
all your comments will be greatly appreciated.

I was having really noisey steering. But mainly when on full lock. After checking loads of bits I discovered that the power steering fluid had run out. Not sure how but it had been about 6k since I checked it last. DOne 3k since filling it back up and the noise has gone, and the level hasnt gone down either. Not sure what happened there, but may be worth checking in addition to what you have already been told. From what you have said it seems that 2 of the mechanics dont have a clue. Alternatively, all three could have found different problems with your car. It is french after all.

problem solved
just to let all of you know problem is solved. turned out to be the bolts holding the steering rack onto the subframe were loose.. cost nil!!!. thanks for your replies on this matter and to quote the old mechanic who helped me out on this one " dont think of the worst problem first". he mentioned to check all bolts and nuts first. special thanks to Blue406 and Munfred for giving me advice...
thanks again...

I myself have a noise which sounds like steering etc turning the wheel you here a knocking noise also when you hit a bump you can hear it only when the car is warm and outside temperature is in double figures. sound like a banger
in car parks people look and stare. not happy any ideas what mine could be? My freind who is a mechanic has checkedlots of things and greased various components but its still the same.
