Bets? 2.2 HDi exec. estate in Sherwood green with a blocked Dpf? Or "how many hours will Eric put up with it as it is before the meddling begins"?
Work of art? Doubtful, unless I can figure out a way of walking up it upside-down. I wasn't happy how it was so I thought about how it should look and if I could actually make it. All I need to do now is work out how to support it without buying even more metalwork ('cos I'm feeling like a pain every time I go back to the shop). The main downside is it's another 25cm into the room and I will have to duck under a beam every time I go up and down. Oh, and Goran needed his welder back "just for an hour" Saturday and, erm... Ah well, it is his so I can't complain and I have plenty of other things to be getting on with. Saturday afternoon I had the lawnmower going. 2nd of March and I'm already gardening, lordy

Dogmobile - I bet he's found a blocked up 2.2 and "took it off their hands" for a bargain but at a "huge risk" *
I bet it's low mileage too......

And as late as they got in 2004...
I thought about checking the oil in the lawnmower, er, just as I finished but I had the tiller going earlier and I did check that, about half-way down the stick but still as clean as anything - you gotta love these B&S engines, no oil pump, no oil filter and just a finger on the big end to splash oil around the crankcase, marvellous

My pez Mountfield's engine hasn't got a sump plug! last time I turned it upside down for it to drain from the dippy tube bit
Mower engines are supposed to have an oil service for every 50 hours use!

Re: and today i have mostly been...
That probably works out once a year for mine. I see tipping the lawnmower up and pouring it out seems to be the preferred method, rather than trying to find the right spanner for the drain, if you can get to it, and then trying to get it to seal up again.
An oil pump is a bit unnecessary for single-figure power outputs...
In other news: apparently Keith Flint's topped himself, wtf? That's pretty unexpected, he always looked like he was having a good laugh. https://youtu.be/QChGuXjD9hw?t=167

Re: and today i have mostly been...
Sadly I have been unable to find a decent, or even half-way decent 406.
Even my bro has exhausted that avenue and resorted to a 407SW in 2.2 HDi 'GT' spec, (which is a decent drive BTW).
I have searched high & low, looked at lots of options, then finally I decided I should listen to the advice from this exalted forum.
Welly, (among others) urged me to get a Volvo on more than one occasion....
So I thought about it........
then decided I should follow his example......
and get a Citroen!
So without further ado, let me present Dogmobile 3 for your delight and delectation.
(Apologies for the naff pictures).
It's a fairly basic spec version - a 2.0 HDi 140bhp VTR+ model, with eye-wateringly expensive leather and satnav options.
2 owners before me, last guy for 7 years
drives very nicely, uber smoooth and has a few less rattles and knocks than the venerable Dogmobile 2
I looked at four of these, before settling on this one. The leather sold it to me - the equivalent cloth trim makes for a really dull gloomy cabin - but this feels like home.
Hope you like it.

Re: and today i have mostly been...
Wasn't expecting that!
I approve
The C5's kinda hide under the Radar a bit, I think that's a fair choice and very similar mechanically to the 406 (if not the same mostly) last owner must've loved it, I'd have bought the car in your case too.
There's no DPF on these?
140bhp should feel pretty sprightly, any plans to increase this?

Isn't the same engine in the 407?
It's the one John raves about as being both reasonably spritely with respectable economy.

Re: and today i have mostly been...
It does have a DPF and won't pass the MOT without unfortunately. Had it's dpf fluid topped up a year or so back so should be OK for a fair while. I probably do enough main road/motorway miles to keep it that way. (It is the same engine as the 407).
It's possible to get a 'DPF Safe' remap to take it to 165 horses and 370 Nm for not much wonga, so I may do that later, but it feels OK for now. Definitely more economical than the 406 (which wasn't too shabby).

Boingy boingies.
(and a complete lack of the oil spills that accompanied the one I did see with drybolics).
I also haz a standard ratshit-type handbrake.

Re: and today i have mostly been...
I know the larger Picarseoles had pump-o rear sussy (which fails ) and folk just exchange them for boingies.
This C5 has the makings of being simple enough and certainly DIY'able to keep going for many years, I'm liking the idea of one of these

Re: and today i have mostly been...
Nice.
is that 2.0 litre engine the same/or similar to the 1.6 diesel, and its problems, that's in the Picassos
or is it basically the old 2.0 from the 406's and the earlier Picassos. ?
I've always thought the 407 was awkward looking, but that C5..., yeh I could go with one of them.
