One of the best advice I was given is....

I've only been driving the 26t for 4 years, but mostly round city streets which means you have to learn fast - I've only done 40k miles in 4 years which is nothing really - but that's 40k miles down teeny tiny roads with ridiculously parked* cars....
Prior to this I was driving 40k a year in my 7.5t, all local .

And today I have mostly been.... spitting blood because I got a parking ticket. In the middle of the town here is a car park. None of the bays are actually marked, there aren't any signs or anything, but you figure if you park where everyone else parks you'll be ok, right? Wrong. Two days back I parked to go to the post office and came back to find a police car stopped next to me: "that'll be 300Kn". What for? It seems I can't park on the end there because it isn't a car park, it's a main road. It might look like a twisty pathway through the middle of a car park but no, it's a proper road, and I'm blocking about 2" of it.

So I try to complain because, just like everywhere else here, I'm entitled to complain and if nobody ever complains about anything nothing will ember change. However, in practice I'd be complaining about the police, which means I have to take the police to court. Possible costs? 1,000s. Chances of a favourable outcome? Worse than zero. Once again they got me coming and going. So Today I paid up. Oddly enough the post office today was full of people paying parking fines. Call it "existence tax".

It's exactly the same as the stupidly low speed limits around here, any time the police need some cash...

In other news, my mate dropped his fag lighter down the side of the seat in the yoyo. While I was looking for it for him I found that two of the bolts holding the passenger seat down weren't even finger tight. And this car had only ever been to Toyota before I got it. I wonder what else is about to fall off...

Definitely raising funds at the moment, your parking 'infringement' sounds ridiculous. How do you go on with the language when this happens? as I remember you didn't really take on board the local lingo ? sorry if i'm out of date.

Most of the time I can get my meanings across, although this time one of the coppers had a fair bit of english (proving language doesn't have much to do with intelligence) saving a lot of ag, but I just have to accept I'm crap with languages, something I've inherited from my father. Although sometimes I really get the idea that they're making it up as they go...

Making/fitting even more polybushes - upper D8 torque link bushes this time - I'm slowly getting towards having a complete set of poly mount available

Getting an MOT, which the trusty Dogmobile2 passed with one advisory - slight knock from n/s/r droplink. £30 well spent.
Tester expressed surprise at how good the emissions results were at 206k miles. "Barely run in", I observed.
Guess 60 miles of main road cruise every weekday helps.

Just two days ago my daughter's 107 needed front discs, pads & an exhaust for its MOT, cost £330.

Been meaning to say this for ages but this morning's wet roads proved a stark reminder:

When other drivers overtake you on a dual carriageway and pull straight back in in front of you I was trained to wait until you can see the car you've overtaken in your rear view mirror and THEN ease back to the left lane; this way you'll have left a good 10 x car lengths between you. Now it seems the norm to almost take your front bumper off and spray the front of your car with stones/water/shyte
