Well done getting it sorted out.

Sometimes it helps to loosen the steering rack and subframe bolts, then nip them up again with the car sitting level on the ground with the wheels pointing straight ahead.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

The steering will loosen off by itself...had this a couple of times before.

You don't have to loosen the steering rack as the bottom steering joint has a universal joint and will pivot.

Thanks jasper..it did feel better this morn to be fair..what a difference a new clutch makes tho..nearly put my foot through the floor 1st time changing gear.. so smooth...:)

Next job in the summer is front pads and brake fluid renewal, I've seen some of your posts on fluid renewal so will read up on them as never done before, pads I've done a few times on various cars..

Thanks
