1.6HDi Fuel Filter change - £20.00 labour?

Post by Welly »

Just had the Fuel Filter changed on the C4 as the old one had done 6 years and 38K miles :o

A bit of googling suggested it's a PITA job on the 1.6 being buried down behind the engine and tales of removing the intake pipework and Battery etc. I used a Peugeot specialist who said the filter 'unit' was £32.00 + £20.00 labour + vat.

i don't think that's too bad?

Labour cost sounds reasonable, but 32 sheets for a filter seems 'reassuringly expensive' (I balked a nearly a tenner for one for my 406).

Try feeding the reg. into ECP's website and see what it costs there.

On the plus side, I guess you don't need to do it too often, since it consumes next to sod-all fuel.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

On my Honda CDTi, the filter was £60 and wasn't the easiest (but not the hardest) to get to. The filter is more than you get on the 406 - it comes with a whole housing (just like on the 407). I don't think you can replace just the elements inside. A bit wasteful...

Yes, just about the correct price!

Didn't I give a how-to replace the filter a couple of times?

£60 was mega expensive!

I find these more of a pain than the Citroens, filter is down the back of the engine compartment!

Yep and I had to take off various cowls along with the throttle pot to get to it.

Filter is a big lump of plastic, filter/housing/pipe connections all in one. Price sounds aboot right. I changed mine and don't recall it being overly difficult but it was a tad buried.
