Hello

Post by Captain Jack »

Hello everyone!

So, I haven't been here for a while due to many, many other things that have been going on here. Still working on the house after the flood last year but mostly there. Have been travelling a bit for work and on holidays (motherlaaaand) but now have nothing big planned for a while.

Have also been busy with my other hobby, which is still on-going - lots of fine tuning etc.

Car wise - still driving the 407 I got in 2013. Well, I say 'driving', it's mostly sat on the driveway and only drive short-ish distances to badminton, shops, cinemas as well as some longer runs to the airport and back. I've done around 27k miles in my ownership - hardly a lot - so it's sat on 78k at the moment. Haven't really had many issues. The heater flap broke again, which I repaired .. again. But it's doing some clicking when going around, so need to break into the heater box to see what's going on there now. Had a spate of 'lights faulty' messages on the display, which was fixed(?) by running some earth wires from light clusters at the back to a proper earth point. Oh and the rear ABS sensors have been replaced. Not a huge job but required lowering of the fuel tank to run the cables to the connection point - next time I am going to simply cut and join them.

My intermittent issues with engine jerkings have mostly gone away in that I haven't really had it happen since winter time, so no idea what was causing this. My suspicions were with EGR or DPF regens soooo.... I got rid of them yesterday, along with a remap. Only time will tell whether things improve but I am happy with my 213bhp on tap now

My next big thing to do on it is to give a damn good valet and get rid of a couple of parking dings that tw@ts in car parks create. Yesterday, I was sat in car in Gordano services on the phone and this fat beach ball opened her door far and wide right into my driver's door, before rolling out of her car. A toy terrier dog followed. I made a comment of being careful and not to bang my doors to which she said "well there's no damage, is there?". Yes, there fking is, you dumb bint... and there's my blue paint on YOUR door.

....anyway. So, I want to give it a good polish (probably by a Polish) with hopefully small dents removed and 't-cut' (or whatever method they use these days). I am also thinking of putting a 'glass' coating, which apparently protects the paintwork (or what's left of it) for a few years. It's a tad pricey but might be worth it.

How's everyone here then? :D

Nice one, Alex. I think you may have finally created a 407 that'll keep up with a 406.
Sounds mighty impressive, keen to hear how you get on with it.
How much did that cost, (if you don't mind me asking)?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)

2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Erm... a lot. £599 for the whole package. I had cheaper options - Celtic would have done it for half that - but I didn't want just anyone to do this as I hear (everywhere) that this particular engine is tricky to do and would usually require a bench flash of the ECU, due to OBD port being allegedly "unreliable". I nearly sent the ECU to ECUEdit guy in Slovenia but he, for some reason, stopped responding half way through deal negotiations.

I like the map - it's still very linear and I am sure you still get a bigger kick in your wagon on acceleration but it's making everything just that little bit easier.

The 3.0 HDI V6 maps up to nearly 300 ponies......

Hi CJ, good to hear from you.

My 406 is gawn :( I just wasn't using it so it just sat and deteriorated whilst costing me monies to register it every year, it just didn't make any sense to keep it, so when someone came along with a bunch of cash....

Other than that I'm ok, t'wife is away this week (some place called England? Sounds ghastly anyway :supafrisk: ) and I was planning to do a whole load of stuff while she was away, all outside so of course it's been pissing down ever since :frown:

Hi Steve  Yes, I did notice that you seem to have become partial to JapCrap that has been accumulating on your drive :supafrisk: How's the Yoyo?

Strangely enough, it hasn't rained in my part of the world very much at all recently. Certainly not for the past week. I guess I should tackle the grass crops on my lawn soon...

YoyoII is dong fine, sadly. It's not even gone wrong yet, unlike the last one that had tape hiding all the warning lights on the dash. The only problems (apart from lorry-esque fuel consumption, the stupidly tiny boot and the whole hairdresser-ness of the thing) are the ATM which gets confused sometimes and, oddly, the sinking driver's seat. There's something strangely familiar about that one...

ATM? Isn't that what the Yanks call the hole in the wall?

Automatic transmission, not automated telling machine! Why would I have one of them in a car? Although I guess one would make it easier to keep the thing fed.

Hold on, do the UK-ish still call them a "hole in the wall"? I've been calling them ate'ems for years, I wonder where I got that from. They call them "bankomat" here, sounds like laundromat, which, judging by how most of the banks here function, would be more appropriate.

Bankomat is what it's called in Russian too...

Your Yoyo is a slushmatic eh.... Never thought you'd go for one of those. Thought I guess it bodes well for a relaxed lifestyle...

I think most of Yerup calls them that too.

Wife's idea  as my family all have autos she reckoned she'd drive it more if it was auto as they're easier to drive. Sadly she's driven it even less than the other heap, in fact I don't think she's even sat in the driver's seat. It makes me sad that I had to sell a nice 406 to keep this Jap crap but it is easier on my back. I just wish she'd drive the fecker :frown:

Tbh I love automatics, all that ever puts me off is the unreliability and the fuel consumption thing. Getting 8.5-9 litres/100km around town, that's, well, terrible. It's so bad I can't face converting it to mpg :supafrisk:
