Long time no see

Post by FarmerPug »

Havent been about in a long time, finished off uni this year and just kept plodding along in the 406 which has drove great.
It has a few issues like rear callipers which need to be rebuilt, a crunchy 4th gear, and a leaky intercooler. Nothing particularly hard or expensive to fix.

How many still have 406's on here?

This is the latest addition to the fleet, might do something for the Volvo owners:

Coupe still going strong, passed 106,500 miles today; it's nearly been a year and 6,000 miles since the clutch crapped out and was replaced, and nearly 6 months since some dozy bint at my workplace ran into it in her RR Evoque (she admitted liability and her insurance gave me cash-in-lieu of repairs, and I got a replacement front wing and headlamp, and the front bumper repaired and resprayed, and got the rear bumper done at the same time (well, why not?)

The rest of the car seriously needs a respray now; there's lacquer peel all over the bonnet, some on the roof and on the boot lid, and some stone chip damage here and there across the whole body.

But I'm sticking with it as long as possible, because it's a really great car to drive.

Hi Frank, good to hear from you :cheesy:

Yes, I still have my 406, although it gets very little use. I was tempted to sell it once again this year but it's worth so little now and it's such a good car I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

Great to hear there are still some on here with 406's, sorry for the delayed response just been busy with work.

The Volvo was an impulsive buy, apparently id didn't need much for the next MOT, really though it was a lemon, used water and oil, produced grey, black and also white smokes at various times and had a knocking sound. I suppose the fact it arrived dry on oil was a sign of its issues. That is now sold.

Disappointed by the issues with the Volvo it has been replaced by something more reliable:

The 406 is going well at the moment, i plan to get the C5 through its mot (failed on an ABS light yesterday), tidy it up and drive it. While using it then attend to the niggling issues the 406 has. The 305 project will be able to start up again, it had taken a pause while i did final year.

Hi there Frank, good to hear from you again. The C5 looks a whole different ball game to the Ovlov, bet it was cheap as chips too :(

Does the C5 have the same ABS sensors (and magnets in the wheel bearing) as the 407? My 407 eats ABS sensors.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

The C5 is a 3.0 V6 Automatic, bought from another Autoshite member here in NI, our obsession with diesel makes big petrols cheap as chips, ive spent more on a set of tyres for the 406.

No offense to the 960 it was a fantastic big bus, really did love the sound it made and you felt like the pilot of something substantial while driving, rear wheel drive was tremendous fun on a gravel yard, a good one would be something worth taking care of.

Need to take a look at the C5's ABS havent plugged in Lexia yet as far as i know its a sticky valve in the pump. It has a rocker cover leak causing a bit of an oily smell, timing belt, spark plugs the lot are going to be tackled soon so a good reason to sort that.
