its 70 miles away which isnt ideal. also seen this 307http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322095777261? ... EBIDX%3AIT dont know much about them but the hdi 90 is a good engine and tuneable usually. thats a good mileage, about 50 miles away but a nice easy drive along the a27.

70 miles is not to bad, we bought an Hdi Coupe in Telford today - just got back.

i think ill call them and go and have a look. the 307 looks clean and tidy but I don't think will ride as nice as a 406

im aiming for 650 but it does look clean in the pics with a good mileage and good news is only 35 miles away and its on the way to the boat so no wasted time if its rubbish.

First one looks OK, mileage is good. The 1.9td although a nice car is not as good on fuel and the road tax is higher, the cheap tax comes in after march 2001. The only real advantage is lack of electronics, not nearly as much to go wrong but the head gaskets fail on the XUDs at around 150,000 miles, the Hdi's dont - usually.
On any you look at check around the coolant filler cap for any signs of dry antifreeze, if the head gasket is leaking it will blow the coolant out. After you have driven it leave it to cool for a few minutes and carefully remove the pressure cap, it shouldn't eject any water. If it has plenty of antifreeze that's a good sign, you can check by dipping the end of your finger in and tasting it, should be sweet.
There are not many other problems that the Hdi has that you won't notice when you drive it.

thanks for advice. it's a 110 so a little concerned for DMF problems. but will check it over asap.

The early 110 hdi was 'SMF. V-w reg iirc.. The 90 has no DMF too.

I have a 245k 406 and a 205 k C5, both have their original clutch and DMF. If it drives OK it should be OK.

It was for my son, I have difficulty posting pictures so will try and get him to do it - or even join the forum.
I'm very impressed with the car, I drove it back about 180 miles last night, precise handling and very stable but the biggest surprise was the 65 mpg fuel figure, driving at no more than 60 mph mind. I have always rubbished the 2.2 engine since I had one in a C5 and that was dreadful on fuel, this one is better than my 2.0. C5.

how do you get on with the c5, always fancied one and pretty cheap. some scare stories but they seem to hold the mileage well

I bought mine as a replacement for the XM but its not as good, having said that it gives a comfortable ride and has lots of room in it but doesn't handle as well as the 406. As a secondhand car I think they are very good value for money but mine is an early one with the 2.0. Hdi 8 valve engine, same as the 406 - bombproof.
The later ones are OK but more complicated, I think the 2.0. 16 valve Hdi is OK but avoid the 1.6, potentially very troublesome. the early one is not particularly nice looking but is relatively simple and easy to work on and you can buy them for peanuts. I paid £550 for mine four or five years ago.
If you are not familiar with hydraulics they are different but not really difficult, the only thing that's gone wrong with the suspension on mine was the rear trailing arm bearings, quite a common fault and not to difficult to do yourself but expensive if you have to pay. I have also replaced the suspension spheres, again not a difficult job. At least they don't break springs.
