New Job

All was going well until her_indoors drove a 15 Plate Voxhorl Zoofera and proclaimed that her car felt "a bit sh!t" in comparison. 'Cronky' was the exact description and then the more we looked at the poor thing and drove it it started to fit it's new name rather easily. It's 12 years old with 105,000 careful* miles and maintained on a shoestring. Prolly worth £500 sheets on a good day but requiring rear brake solutions and some more gaseous cooling solutions, on paper it's only 2 tyres away from being scrapped.

I'm having a bit of a job dilemma, really not happy where I am at the moment to the point where it's actually making me ill again, of course this is further compounded this week by post holiday blues, meaning this week I'm feeling really crappy. I've been giving plenty of thought to moving on but not really sure what I want to do so haven't really been looking other than the odd lazy glance at the jobs page.

Had a brief discussion about a job yesterday, it's going back to doing what I used to do years ago which I hadn't really considered, I remember being really busy and doing loads of paperwork at home and the such, but that was for a busy, private company so they were a bit nuts! I did quite enjoy the role though. Technically it's a pretty significant step down from my current role, but it's a little bit more money, better holidays, better pension and better prospects.

Sounds like I'm talking myself into going for it doesn't it?

12 years ago I took quite a step downwards on the career scale but never looked back, in my mind you're better being really good at an 'easy' job than struggling in a difficult one with all the stress and competitiveness that goes with it.

I freed up time to spend on our house which (when sold) brought in far more money than I could have earned and I spent important time with the teapot lids which I think shaped their success which they enjoy now.

Work is just work we don't have to kill ourselves trying to kiss up to some wankers who keep moving the goal posts all the time. You're obviously an intelligent man Dai so you'd be an asset to whoever you worked for, we spend much of our time at work so you shouldn't dread going in the place of a morning as that is not healthy for us.

I hate my job. It's well paid and some would describe it as "cushy" as I work from home but the corporate political bureaucracy is toxic. I am constantly under stress and it's affecting other parts of my life.

Once I am more settled in my new house, I'll start looking for a new job - probably start of next year. I do wish they would make me redundant, though (just like they have the rest of the company), as I would get a nice payout and out of prison.

I'd forgotten that I'd posted in this thread about that job up there , didn't get that one

But I have just accepted an offer on a completely different job . Going back into manufacturing as an engineer (just realised I don't know the actual job title!), something I swore I'd never do when I left that industry 9 years ago. But it's a good job that's right up my street and seems to be devoid of the stresses of my previous experiences, the company seem really well sorted too. It's also significantly more moneys and it's only a 10 min walk from my house, so I'll save well over a grand a year on the commute alone.

I will be walking (or cycling) too, to use the Volvo for that short a commute would kill it in no time! I guess I'll just have to take it for a long drive in the countryside on Sundays like a proper Volvo driver

Fuggin well done that man, more moneh, less stress, less travel, what's not to like?

I passed up on a job offer a few years ago that was betterer and walk-able, I still regret that.

I used to work in Manufacturing, yeah, I used to make Clown Shoes which was no small feat.

I took a job in manufacturing due to the scarcity of work nearer home, "It'll do for a few months until I turn something up", I said.

That was in August 1981.

Still haven't turned anything up.

Well done on the new job, that's a lot more than I earned repairing televisions before I retired.
