I have just bought one of these: http://www.halfords.com/motoring/garage ... e-inflator
I went for this one because I read the review on Autocar's website. I didn't want an 'extension lead' or USB ports mentioned on other reviews, nor was I into taking out a second mortgage to pay for some of the others. I accept that £35 is still maybe a little over the top, but I believe it is worth the extra few quid. (Although because I ordered over the Internet, and got free delivery, I did save the cost of diesel picking it up.) Interestingly, compared to a calibrated gauge, it was only 0.5 psi out at 35psi, which is a damned sight better than some on the market. No quieter than others, but definitely quicker*, and because of the plastic enclosure and some kind of cooling fan, it was OK to handle. At the moment I give it ten out of ten, although that 'may' change depending on how long it lasts.
*I deliberately deflated one of the tyres, and it only took as long as to make a cup of tea to inflate a 196/65 X 15 back to 35psi.

I bought exactly the same one last year to pump my tyres up in France once I'd loaded the car up!
Worked really well and as you say the digital gauge is fairly accurate.

I found that my reversing lamps are next to useless when It comes to lighting up enough for me to see where I am going. I replaced them with these. http://www.bltdirect.com/20w-12v-replac ... twinspotnm As is usual for me, I paid the £2.14 for them just before they were reduced.
