Hdi throttle position sensor
Hello all first post here but this forum has been helpfull in the past so thanks to all. Shall post thanks and details in future now i'm registered.
My question is: Are the tps on 110hp interchangeable with 90hp?
My local scrappy has 2 110's and i have a 90hp they look the same but that might not mean anything.
I know theres the chance the one i get is faulty also but money is tight.
Regards Soxmilligex
Edit ought to add a bit more info
I have no fault code. my mate is back next week with a reader gizmo but. Me ol motor drives great...then a bit lumpy...then engine management light comes on... then Anti pollution fault warning... limp mode ie no turbo.
If i pop the bonnet plug in the lead on the airbox( its been disconnected for 4 years no problem) start her up rev a bit and light goes out and all is fine so.
I disconnect the airbox lead.
If i leave the lead on the airbox in me ol motor doesnt like it.
Then 10, 20, 500 miles later it all happens again.
Very intermittent but more regular lately.
Come to the conclusion its the tps. ???
£25 quid from the scrappy if its compatable?
Thanks in advance. Soxmilligex

Hi and welcome aboard.
All HDi TPS's are the same AFAIK, but you might be able to sort your one - rwb did a post on reviving tham a while back, try having a search....

Re: Hdi throttle position sensor
Thanks Dodgy i saw rwb's post and got stuck on the dielectric grease part ???
I reckon i'd have to be unlucky for the scrappy one to be 'dodgy' too.
Urm actualy i know my luck. Spent a few months getting annoyed with a knocking from the rear left. i'd replaced the drop links with some a mate gave me that looked and was told were new. only to find the knocking still there. In desperation i replaced the shocks. Still there. Just my luck that the drop link on that side was replaced with a screwed 'new' droplink. If i'd fitted them the other way round it would've moved to the other side LOL. Well i'll try anyway.
Hope that its the tps. Will update.

Re: Hdi throttle position sensor
Yup. When i asked the bloke i bought it from he said it started running funny so he unplugged it.
I get very good mpg plenty of power for a 90hp so i just left it unplugged. Done 80,000 miles like it. Now on 260,000.

Re: Hdi throttle position sensor
How odd. I was sure that unplugged MAF was a guaranteed engine light.

Re: Hdi throttle position sensor
Maybe wrong but i read somewhere the 110 will not like it but the 90 doesn't seem to care.
Tried it plugged in and got a few miles before the engine started jumping like my mother inlaw on hot coals. (ahhh that was a good evening)
Unplugged her and all was happy.

Re: Hdi throttle position sensor
For the record my 110 wasn't bothered by it either, ran fine for a few weeks without it while I got round to sourcing a replacement.rwb wrote:How odd. I was sure that unplugged MAF was a guaranteed engine light.
Re: Hdi throttle position sensor
Just replaced the MAF sensor on my 2.2 as Planet flagged it as a fault but no EML.
The results after a few days driving are increased throttle response and boost comes in earlier and smoother, fuel aconomy may have improved but I won't be able to confirm until I stop playing with the extra horses it has found.
Having said that the live fuel data seems to be around the same as before but I'm driving her more 'enthusiastically' so you could say that equals an improvement in economy.

Might give that a go Gumby thanks.
Just tried two scrappy tps to no avail. Will have to get the fault code.

Re: Hdi throttle position sensor
Update: had the faults read
No code numbers sorry dont know why. I have the printout.
Deisel high pressure. flow regulator at stop - permanent
pressure controller at stop - intermittent
Air intake temp. signal - short circuit to positive or open circuit (maf disconnected)
flow sensor signal - open or short circuit to earth (maf disconnected)
There seems to be more air in the fuel system than i remember (if i pump the bulb it clears but soon comes back.)
Runs great all day then flat spot when i accelerate at about 1500 1600 then eml and limp mode.
Have looked around and maybe sucking air in somewhere when under higher pressure?
Will keep looking but any advice gratefully received.

Re: Hdi throttle position sensor
All of those would be consistent with the HP pump being starved of fuel / air bubbles therein. Guessing yours is a Siemens-equipped 90? You can get leaks too small to splil any diesel, but big enough to hamper the suction of the HP pump. Check the fuel filter housing carefully, possibly also the in-tank strainer.

Re: Hdi throttle position sensor
Thanks for the advice doggy, sorry got your name wrong before.
Yup it's the seimens version.
Will do tomorrow. i imagine in my unskilled mind that if it's the fuel filter housing the leak would be at the top somewhere as its sucking air in.
Bet it's raining.
