Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Remote locking repair help please

Post by annie10 »

i was given 2 keys when i bought the car. both have broken buttons so wont work the locking, however i took both keys apart and if i press the rubber tab on the circuit board a red light shows up on the board but when i tried this next to the car neither key would activate the locking but both keys work in the doors and ignition manually..
is there a simple ie inexpensive way to fix these or is it not worth it for the expense.

regards Annie

When you say 'broken buttons', do you just mean the rubber bits attached to the plastic body of the fob?.....as you've said the red LED comes on ok if the circuit board buttons are pressed.
Could just be that your keys need re-syncing back up to the car.

yes, the buttons that are on the key fobs.
my key also spins on occasion in the door lock. on passenger side it wont open the door at all. no movement in the lock.

i saw some spare key cases on eBay for a few pounds so might try those and I'll have a look in the handbook about re-syncing the keys.
