Re: Flood damage to my 406.
I went through a flood and got water in the filter. Fortunately nothing too serious but the MAF sensor was filthy. Cleaned it up with some blasts of carb cleaner and car goes better. I fault code read the ecu and there was two codes related to the MAF sensor which I cleared.

Hi DDD, I appreciate you would have helped me out - it was your idea that pointed me to the welders shop...

You tried spraying cleaner on the MAF sensor?

Make sure it is a quick evaporating one with no residue - carb cleaner is best.

Re: Flood damage to my 406.
I was going to buy a can but was unsure which one. they had electrical contact cleaner, carb cleaner & brake cleaner amongst others. I was hoping to get a product specially made for MAF sensors.
So you recon the carb cleaner is best?

Re: Flood damage to my 406.
Nah mate don't use carb cleaner it'll strip off the waxy coating on the delicate MAF sensor.
You can buy spray MAF sensor cleaner, just google it, but you will find it is isopropanol alcohol spray that is ment for cleaning delicate electrics.
Have a look on ebay for Ambersil I.P.A spray, just give it a few short blast's to rinse off the dirt & let it evaporate.
Do not try to wipe it, again you will damage the waxy coating.
I have sucessfully cleaned loads this way but to be honist after about 100k sometimes sooner they can go out of trim
& the only answer is replacement
unless of course like you said you have sucked in a load of dirt/dirty water, in which case this should help.
Hope this helps DDD.

Re: Flood damage to my 406.
I only use carb cleaner cos I nick it from our tool hire section in my lunch break to tinker with the car.....
A MAF cleaner would be better.
