Comms 2000 and airbag light. Happy bunny.

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Comms 2000 and airbag light. Happy bunny.

Post by Quinny »

So fresh from having my system looked at a couple of weeks ago with PP, I still had the airbag light on, and it was annoying the hell out of me, as all of the usual suspect plugs seemed to be ok.

So as I was due to have my Comms 2000 looked at by Graeme, who advertises repairs to Comms 2000 on E.Bay, I mentioned it to him in a phone call, and he said that it could be a possibility that the fault was there.

So I made the 10 mile or so trip to see him today, and he stripped the steering wheel and Comms 2000 off, and did the indicator stalk repair to it that these units suffer from, and did a couple of other things, and then reinstalled the lot back together, and guess what?

NO FRIKKIN AIRBAG LIGHT.

Hallelujah.

So two things spring to mind here:

1. If your indicator stalk is of the, "I am not self cancelling on my own," variety.
2. Your airbag light is on and won't go off, despite you trying all of the other methods, then either send your Comms 2000 to Graeme via his E.Bay page, or if like me you live not far away, you can either take it to him already off the car for 20 pictures of HM The Queen, or he can do it for you, and do other tests for 35 pictures of HM The Queen.

Turned out that my Comms unit had been a replacement in the past, as my car is a 2002, whereas the Comms unit was made in 2004. :?

Work on my HDi continues.

Next, the cambelt and all the other stuff associated with it.

Good result :D

I went over to Bradford to have the Comm 2000 done on my Estate a while back and mentioned it in my thread about my project.

He's a good lad, well worth the trip over to Bradford. :D

Highly recommended!

Lots to do yet?

Did you get your timing belt stuff yet?

Got the timing belt stuff today. Kind of.

Pulley and seal bought direct from GSF, however, it was cheaper to order the belt kit with pump online, instead of collecting it at the same time as the pulley and seal. Figure that one out. It's a Dayco belt kit, and the pulley is their premium one. Just awaiting a date for my local garage to do.

Other things to do are:

Boot struts.
Set of 4 original 15" wheel trims, although I don't know which type they are for my particular car.
ABS sensors cleaned and rings checked.
Rear discs and pads off for cleaning/replacing. (Possible spring loose on internal shoes. Intermittent grinding from the rear while travelling, not braking.)
Passenger arm rest replacement
Small exterior body repairs. Possible replacement bonnet required, due to previous owner putting bonnet down while something left on slam panel causing very tiny paint cut from underneath. May be able to tap it back, but there are also various small scratches which may or may not polish out.
And then once done, my neighbour who is a valeter, is going to polish it to within an inch of it's life, and hopefully get any other scratches out.

What pisses me off, is the car has obviously been neglected, and it's such a shame.
