Where's all the Snow and Ice this year?

Post by Welly »

So here I am, fully equipped with Winter Tyres and what happens? mild weather that's what. I reckon I've only seen Ice in the morning twice maybe? this year.

This is not good enough, if February doesn't bring me some Schnow I'm gonna get quite cross and start tutting loudly.

you've heard of the polar vortex plonking itself over canada/N.E Usa in the tabloids couple of weeks back?
This is pouring cold air out into a relatively warm Atlantic , creating deep depressions that wing themselves at us,hit the wall that is the scandinavian high pressure (aka scandy block) keeping us mild but under pretty much unrelenting rain for weeks and weeks on end because these depressions can't travel further to the east as they usually would.
in a nutshell thats it :)
keep them tyres to hand though you MIGHT need them back end of Febuary

Yeah, they get all the danger

We inevitably had some snow here Friday 24th/Saturday 25th, only about 10" or so. This prompted a power cut from the early hours of the Saturday morning until almost noon  It's drizzled a fair bit since but there's still a good few inches left. Then last Saturday we had a day of freezing rain. Not so bad here, everything was covered in 1/2 of ice (sugared Toyota anyone?), including the snow which is weird and the dustbin which was encased in ice which I had to keep shattering to open it. I had to defrost the yoyo 3 times during the day. Elsewhere in the country they had lots, there are loads of power lines down in Gorski Kotar, pictures on the news of trees with all the branches stripped off and reporters smashing ice off of bushes with hammers (now try that on your car dear :frown: )

Oh yeah, the really annoying bit was I bought a new pushbike the Thursday before but because of the snow and ice the furthest I've been on it so far was from the boot of the yoyo to the shed where I stuck it next to the pug :(

Look at the winter tyres as insurance, you wouldn't cancel your house insurance because you'd not needed to claim on it for a few years. Ok you don't really need winter tyres now but if you do you'll be glad of them.

I'm on the verge of a deep depression. Bought a pair of snowboots, and getting more and more worried that
I won't have a chance to use them.

Those poor snowboots, hopefully their day will come.

Funny actually, my local Tesco has got *shitloads* of Snow Shovels and screen wash presumably based on the last few years experience.....

I've stocked up a bit on screenwash while it's cheap :supafrisk: hope it doesn't have a shelf life?

But if you tell everyone at work you have winter tyres you'll be expected to turn up,hold the fort etc etc when nobody else can make it in due to the roads being impassable

I'm gutted so far.
I love winter. I enjoy getting up, switching the car on and listen to it clatter away at -10°c while I scrape the windows.

I like the freezing cold days when the sun is out but it never really comes about freezing.

This weather is just crape

You'd love this stuff then

(Pic taken yesterday morning when it wasn't as bad...)

The ice scraper won't touch it (buy some Rainex, here? Ho ho ho) until the heater's been going some time (HDi owners need not apply...)

That looks like absolute bliss to me!
Apparently it's getting down to 3°c tonight so hoping it will be frosty tomorrow!

Finding out what it's like to be an hdi owner and waiting for the screen to demist :frown:

Thinking if it's worthwhile spending 10 of the queens heads on one of these ?

Waxman,
You must have some damp issues because mine demists no problem.
For what it's worth i have found it best to make sure the A/C is allways turned off thru the winter to get the inside nice & dry :)
But I must admit it take's a six or seven mile run to get it up to full running temp , I have been thinking about blocking off some of the rad from the cold air blast.

^^ Mine demists....... eventually, 5/6 mins if cold.

My A/C comes on auto as soon as you turn ignition on, I always turn it off - seems a characteristic of the car.

Screen vents take a while to warm up, so was thinking of 'assisting' the process :D

Edit - Scotty seen where ebayers put prices up - It's cos they don't have stock and awaiting delivery - instead of relaunching the auction that ebay charges for, they just raise the price and don't have to pay additional listing fees etc. :supafrisk:
