Just interested in upgrading the stereo in the 406 D8...
Anywyas - how deep is the front door so I can mount a new set of speakers in there - Is it 6'5 or just 6'?
Also - in the back parcel shelf...are they 6x9's?
How do I get to them to remove them - Can't figure it out?
Thanks heaps
Joel
Hey, yes, the fronts are 6.5", and are deep. you should have no problems fitting a pair of good components up front.
The rears are 6X9's but are a pain to change because the magnets fit through a hole under the shelf. This leaves you with 2 options, fit a pair or replacement 6x9's that have smaller magnets, or fit some better ones and mod the hole to allow the magnet to go through.
I can sort you with the components @ a good price.
ive retro fitted the jbl speakers from a d8 coupe and they are brilliant, and you dont have to modify any of the wiring as they are factory speakers, and fit perfectley in the rear shelf

Wonder how much duct tape and blu-tac I'd need to fit 'em in my estate...
The rear 6x9's are basically compressed into the plastic shelf pods by a large magnet mounting cradle under the shelf, in the boot... you simply unscrew these and pop the speaker up out of the plastic shelf pods...
I brought some alpine SPS 692's I think they are, and modified used some threaded bar and a nut to replace the existing coax mounting screw under the label and then just replaced them in the manner they were originally fitted and they sound great and look standard ! Very Stealthy and trick ! I removed the acustic padding in the covers so you can actually see the cool blue cones and silver tweeter !
They are similar to these but have blue cones and they sound quality, they are still the same price though but mine are a few years old now....
Well worth £30 they sound so much better than the original ones, but if you want them even better then get some Infinities !

Infinities or Focals would be nice...somthing is telling me that I simply can't afford them!
As for the rear parcel shelf - I might try and source some JBL's from a coupe...are they a bassy speaker though?
Planning on sound deadening the doors as well - has anyone here done this....worried about all the electrics for the power windows and the regulators etc?
Sound deading the front doors is a pain but well worth it allow at least half a day to do a good job of it and pick a warm day and use a hot air gun to make sure it sticks well......
Mine arent and are pushing 60 Watts RMS each and no panel vibration or resonance etc.. Maybe if you put 8" woofers in the door then it would be worth while!?

Whaaaaaaat?
The doors in the 406 are soooooo tinny - the door cards really vibrate with the stock speakers - really does need sound deadening?
Disagree on this Niz it makes the bass in the front a lot more pronounced and stops people outside your car thinking your a boy racer as the music stays in the car.
Hummm... well tbh its not really that important when you have 2 phatt 12's kicking the boot lid into touch....
The front's on mine were runnuing on HPF 100hz cut off, now they are on on full output and sound so sweet ! I love Alpine Audiophile speakers ! Shame they don't make them anymore !
