406 110hdi HUB COMPATIBILITY

Post by womble171 »

I am after a bit of advice on front hub compatibility on my 406. Thanks to the forum, I now know which bearing is drivin me round the bend (n/s/f). I was going to get a 2nd complete hub to save me paying the garage to press the old bearings out as the seller guarantees the bearings are good. Problem is I don't know if they are different? Mine is a 2000 110hdi estate and the donor car is a 1999 hdi estate, both have ABS. Anybody know if the donor one will fit mine or do I need a 2000 model? Donor car is late 99 and is the facelift model. Thanks in advance.....Neil.

Not worth the hassle!

Buy a bearing, remove the hub and take both down to a garage. Chuck them a tennet to get it pressed in. Return home and put it all back together!

I've done it on numerous occasions.

agreed not worth the bother, i would never buy a used wheel bearing they are not that expensive to buy and at least you know for sure it will be ok.

Thanks guys.

My local garage is a rip off merchant, I know a new bearing is the best remedy, just wanted a replacement to put straight on to save the car being off the road...last time I took it to him I waited 5 days for him to pull the pulley of the hp pump for me:(

Hi, I would definitely spend time ringing garages up for a price, maybe there is a French car specialist near to you? If the price is good it will be worth the journey if a competent garage is a bit of a distance...

Also, don't waste your time and money on 2nd hand hubs etc, could be a false economy.

You don't always need a garage to press a new bearing in, there are lots of places that do motor vehicle light engineering that will do the job....places that recon engines and stuff.

The verdict is definitely in then.......new bearings it is!!

Thanks for all your advice guys, I will give some other garages a ring later on and see how much they will charge.

As always, really appreciate you advice :D
