With those subs, don't you get loads and loads of vibration from the rear shelf? I fitted a Sub in my D8 soon after a got it, but even after using loads of Dynamat lining the boot etc, I still keep getting loads of vibration even at moderate volumes. My Sub is ported though, it maybe because of that.
Mine is for when I work on my car too... I brought it on a trip to Snowdon as I head no head wear, saw it was free with the magazine so I brought the magazine and read that in the car on the way to wales and wore the hat up the mountain!

A guide I read recently sad that you should connect the amp power cables straight to the battery when fitting a sub. Is this true or is there somewhere better to attatch it?
My new headunit will not work with the fitted cd changer either, so I was thinking I could probably use the wires that are already running to the boot for it - is this a good idea?

Yep that's the best way, most amplifiers draw a lot of current - my JBL 300W amplifier draws 40 amps - so run a nice thick wire from the battery to the boot, with a fuse close to the battery. A good earth point is one of the rear light attachment bolts in the boot. You can buy amplifier wiring kits containing power wire, earth wire, remote turn-on and RCA leads for about a tenner.

Not a good idea at all, the current draw will be far to high to suit an amplifier.
That's what I figured about the CD changer wires, but wasn't so sure about the direct onto the battery bit. I had ordered an appropriate wiring kit with the sub/amp package.
