Severed cable in wheel arch

Howdy all.
My ABS light is on on the dash, has been since I bought the car, about 2 months ago now.
My brakes work fine and fortunately I've had no cause to slam on them so don't know if the ABS is actually functional or not, I doubt it though seeing as the light is on.

I was jacking up the car to have a look under the engine for a new place to put the air intake, and noticed this cable was severed in the front left wheel arch. Could it have anything to do with the ABS light?

Looks like the wires that go to the brake pads...check the wires from the brake pads for being connected.

The thinner of the two rubber grommet/bush things there goes to the abs sensor and the fatter one to the pad wear indicators.
