Wow! 3 years old a fairly cheap-ish.

You'd have to buy that and keep it otherwise it'd depreciate faster than a Citroen C5 what with the new 408 an' all.....

What's the spec on the 140bhp? is that the 2.0 two-turbo set up thing?

That's been towing something too, be worth finding out what, mine was used as a European Tow'er I found (after I bought the bloody thing) :frown:

I wouldn't go near it with a bardgepole. Far too little mileage for the age.

10k a year? What's wrong with that? You just hate Pugs, Sam.

The tow bar is a worry... and the two owners it had.

I would never buy a diesel that's done less than 15k pa. Even more so with modern emissions nonsense, you're just asking for trouble. Buy a 100ker! I did an bloody glad as everyone who has issues on the talk ford forum are all low milers.

The replacement is the 508 not the 408 and the 140bhp is the same as the 136 just mapped slightly different

Bailes probably has visions of it being sat in traffic for 3 years chocking to death?

Towing wise it might just have been some friendly gardening type who pulls a tiny trailer once a year? or it could have been towing the mother-of-all Caravans  who knows? apart from the previous keeper(s). I rang my previous Caravan'er owner chap and he was very nice but it was all kinda "ohh yes my friend we took her all over Europe every year" I daren't even ask what size it was and to be fair what would it have mattered to me then - I'd already bought the f*cker.

If that 407 is the double-turbo thing I'd rather it DID have lower mileage. Edit: google just told me it's only the 2.2 (170) with twin turbos (and I missed your post tremmy sorry).

Turbos wear when they have cold oil circulating through them or no oil during startup and shutdown.
I would still rather a twin turbo diesel with high mileage as they won't wear very much if at all when there is a constant stream of hot oil running through them.

Nice motor, 8)

Going off its condition and low mileage-id guess it as being ex mobility.

I came to the conclusion that the 140 is the most sensible 407. Red with a full set of toys   but half leather :?:
Do it

Actually, I think that 407s aren't sensible, but they are very nice, which is why I'm holding out for a 2.2/170.

I saw a two year old 508 with 68k on it (and toys) at under £9k (our share price was up that day). The 2.0 163 is the one to have. I wish the trim levels didn't have such wanky names -- not as bad as Ford though. That fits the way I bought my 406 (3 years old, 82k on it), and I reckon that's the way to buy a diesel car. Moreover, the 508 163 is down in tax band D and has better MPG figures than the 406.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

They might appear to be ugly to most.
But they're nice to drive, a big improvement compared to the 406
Insurance is a fair bit cheaper too..

Most french cars are ugly nowadays .

If you look from the side then it's definitely a French car: pointy nose and waving its fat arse in the air.

It's the front that's the problem...
