Question to other 2.0 petrol-heads

I have a question about how many miles per gallon you manage?

I only ask because last week I did 27 miles and averaged a 9.4mpg

Now, I know that I did keep it in 4th pretty much most of the way to the test station to work the red-ex through the system....

On a good day driving - how much are you averaging?

I only ask because this weekend I am to do 150 miles in Miss Pug and wonder how many pennies it's going to cost

It was only 4 years old when I had it & a saloon with less weight, but my T reg 2.0 GLX used to average 22-24mpg around town. On a run though, it was very dependant on the right foot. At a very steady 70mph I got just over 40mpg on a few long runs, but increasing the average speed by just 10mph dropped it to 28mpg.

Those figures were based on actual fill ups & calculation from the odo readings as the first D9 GLXs (of which mine was one) didn't have trip computers.

Hi Sonia, I used to have a 1.8 petrol Mondeo which was a cheap ebay motor to keep me going, as my van had 2 seats and needed a 4 door for the baby.
This was about 5 years ago, but it is a similar size engine in a similar size car to what you have now.
I was getting 30mpg if I drove ' enthusiastically ', 32mpg if I was careful, and 35mpg on a run.
You should hopefully be able to go 50 - 60 miles on a tenner, if you are gentle with the right foot......

Red-ex lowers mpg ..by a lot.

Iwouidnt try too work out the mpg..until the red/ex as gone out of the fuel.
And your back on straight petrol,

Anyone have a hack saw to chop my right foot off?

Mine's not a 2.0, but the 2.2 is basically the same engine with a longer stroke and slightly more grunt.

I get 31.7mpg average according to Fuelly, and I am not a slow driver by any means. Your 2.0 should be getting at least that, as I have a hard time believing you're somehow heavier in your right foot than I am in mine

I did 75 miles yesterday (doing another 75 miles tomorrow) and I watched the mpg change through out the journey. Was really good viewing
Obviously in town the mpg was quite a low reading but on the A-roads it was going up to 35mpg (which I like!).
The 9.4mpg reading was the average since I topped up with fuel just before the MOT, and by all means she hadn't been run for a while so kept it in 4th for the journey there (well, most of it) only 6 miles away and then obviously it was revved for a while for the emissions test - so that kind of explains it a little...

I topped up again yesterday with a little bit more fuel, have now drove 101 miles since she's been back on the road - including MOT runs. As I say, another 75 miles to do tomorrow, 2 hours of driving so I shall be happy.
