wheel bearing 35mm nut.

Post by lozz »

Anyone got any ideas on this,
Yesterday I tried getting the 34/35mm nut off
As the tyre fitter dropped the car down on the deck to quick.. collapsed wheel bearing
It wasok before.

Well anyways nothing will budge it even had a length of scaff bar on the breaker bar
Broke two bars and one socket..fecking thing

Landed on a metal tool box slashed wrist,

Any ideas on getting the nut off :?:

Never had one like this , :?

Forgot to add its 306 not 406

Thanks inadvance

it's 34mm, but a 35mm socket will do (but chew the nut). Use an impact socket, else you'll likely shatter it as you've already discovered...

The first time I did mine on my coupé, I needed to stand on the end of the breaker bar and bounce on it to get it loose (and I weighed WELL over 100Kg then!). After doing it up to roughly the same bouncing-on-breaker-bar tightness, I found that the newly-purchased mains impact wrench (see the air compressor thread) would fetch the nuts off within 30 seconds, but of course it didn't have to overcome the initial 12 years of stuckness. Haven't found anything that has defeated it yet though, and it's a VERY useful tool to have around!

If it's really being stubborn I'd suggest using a blunt punch or undersized impact socket to give it some serious abuse with the biggest hammer you've got. I'd try knocking it inwards across the thread - not trying to undo it, but to shock it a bit.

I reckon as a last resort you could hire a 1" impact wrench and compressor, which'd definitely do the job, or just cut it - angle grinder, or (my trusty go-to tool of last resort) a dremel with a carbide cutter bit

Cheers mate,

I will give some of them a try,

Every where on the net was stating 35mm
I'm not going senile then..34 mm is correct. Cheers. 8)

A big, sharp chisel and a big hammer....place the chisel on one of the flats near a corner and whack it, it will soon shock it free.

I have never known of a vehicle coming down on a jack to quick or for the fact dropping off a jack collapsing a wheel bearing?

unbeleivable.....

never known anyone be that unlucky all at once, except me, broke my nose on my wing trying to free the bolt on my bottom pulley today... then broke a nuckle and took the skin off the other 3 on that hand trying to get the socket off the rachet afterwards!

i have had a nut like this before... on a micra but was just as stuck..... impact 34mm + breaker bar (cheap 1/2") and weld the sucker onto the bar....

and as previously advised bounce on it like a F**K**G rabid kangaroo till you fall over and the nut splits in two... cos that's what th little sod deserves!

Bloom in ek dude how did you manage that... :(

I still haven't got the 34 mm nut off.
Looks like the end of the drive shaft is squashed
Someone's previously been at it..looks like its been twatted with a lump hammer,

Going to grab another bearing carrier and a drive shaft and bin the ones that are
On,

'twas a bad day....

seperate arm from hub and track rod also, pull it out the way and grind through the shaft at the end of the threads if you can get in that close.
then find something to grip it and turn it the other way, that way only have to buy a shaft?
