Oh crap a dilema

Post by scotty73 »

Look what just came through the post.

I was hoping this wouldn't turn up til Monday because I'd have more time to do it as we're off away tomorrow but now it's here i have the urge to fire up the laptop in search of some horses.

Problem is if i f*ck something up and we can't go away I'll be in the dog house. :supafrisk:

Easy one. Spend today installing it on the laptop & make sure it's all ready so that on Monday morning you can just get on with it (instead of having to wait for the postie).

I thought it was Peugeot Planet that needed XP. Doesn't a Galletto run on any Windows?

Install VirtualBox on your laptop, install Windows XP on the VirtualBox virtual PC, and then install the software on the WinXP virtual system

It is really absurdly easy, even though it sounds complicated

A quick google earlier came up with a thread on here where you had said a similar thing to someone... viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14086

Only read a little bit of it not had much time.

It works fine on windows 7. (that's what I use)

You will need to manually install the driver:

Plug in unit
Cancel driver search
Right click "computer" on the start menu and chose "Manage"
click "Device manager" on the Left
Right click on the interface, which will have a yellow mark on it and choose update driver
click Browse my computer and point it at the drivers folder on the cd you have.
Click "install anyway" when it tells you the driver is not signed

Job done.

Now start the flashing tool, plug the other end into the car and turn on the ignition.
Click "Read ECU data" to confirm everything is good :)

Scotty, good luck

Thanks Highlander, I'd been trying to think of what that was called for a few weeks now.
I remembered you could run a older O/S on a new O/S but couldn't remember the name! :)

Set up the desktop pc on the back seat of the car running off a long extension lead. easier if you have a lcd monitor, but doable with a CRT.

Finally got around to installing this last night i tried it on a win7 laptop using Ben's method and it said drivers installed so plugged it in and had a problem so i installed it on an xp system just to be sure and i have the same problem so here's some pics and an attempt at explaining it all.

Firstly i took a pic of my ecu to make sure i was choosing the right options.
Image

Selecting the ecu to scan.
Image

choose somewhere to save.
Image

Scanning ecu data
Image

Gets all the way to 100% then get this message.
Image

And here's what the error says it is.
Image

Wtf have i done wrong? :?

What happens if you click the "ECU Data" Button? any chance of a higher resolution version of the last screen shot? (Hold alt and press Print Screen) on your keyboard then edit paste into paint on your computer to save it.
