406 1.9td bosch issue

Post by pjb0150 »

his issue is a weirdy one
just changing back to diesel from veg on this car as new person wants it that way ..
i disconnected battery wonder about some ecu crap programme now

when running diesel we now have a clatter ...as if cold start advance is operating
engine management light is on
well it goes out on start up then comes back on when it does engine starts clattering more
occasionaly twice engine will not rev past 2000 rpm but if u switch off= then straight on again it will rev freely
it has 2 wires going to cold start mechanism under pump
removing feed to them made no difference

it starts easy reasonable amout of power just much more clatter

certainly got me thinking ...

Make sure the priming bulb stays firm, if not clean the strainer in the tank.

Also make sure your fuel filter's OK.

My bro's had this running on veg several times - the EML was due to difference between actual injection timing and what the ecu's asking for. Any fuel starvation will prevent the pump adjusting correctly.

It's a fact that you get a bit less clatter on veg anyway, due to the slightly slower rate of combustion reducing the speed of the cylinder pressure increase, (which is what causes the 'clatter').
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)

2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

got a feeling it something to do with cold start advance mechanism ....
ecu i think talks to pump and controls valve somehow
have checked all that u say its getting fuel ok
realy want to know how what the ecu sends down the line how it operates
i have unplugged the cable to pump and it made no difference
