Re: and today i have mostly been...
The plastic has just shattered and the remains have just relaxed back into shape, the real damage is where the metalwork starts and the whole chassis is probably twisted.
With modern cars the manufacturers are after good figures and one way of keeping the weight down is by making panels as thin as possible. Or making them out of plastic...

Re: and today i have mostly been...
I was back to the workshop for new droplinks for the yoyo yesterday morning, while I was there...

Goran is quite philosophical about it, he says he's got to feed his kids (he works in the car spares shop), the mechanic's got to feed his kids and the guy in the body shop's got to feed his.
The links looked slightly smaller than the Pug's, 20 quid a side and about 6 quid fitted
The mechanic also pointed out that the inside of the front disks are quite corroded, far more than the back ones were (which he scraped with a chisel when he fitted new rear pads) and he expressed the opinion that I should do something about them before they get even worse. Yeah, probably, maybe next year...

The bottom wish bone thing doesn't look too happy either. It's on tyres 'cos the idea was to see what it needed but it'll be sat there until the new year. Anyway, they've got stacks of old tyres so they may as well get some use out of them

The Migraine's back on its wheels again, awaiting the body shop...
As I've had a few minutes since my last BSOD I thought I'd just pop in here to say I fink me 'pooter's snuffin' it
Panic, panic, back-up, panic

In through safe mode and it's not crashed yet
Maybe it is a software problem - I didn't think it was because Linux is also goosed
Symptoms - freezing, rebooting, lots of BSODs (mostly 7006s - something to do with a corrupt driver). Pulled memory but the BSODs come almost at boot up whichever card I use. Pulled to bits, cleaned, reseated. CHKDSK says C: is fine. Linux will not boot without entering recovery mode and then it freezes. It does, however, share the same disk as Windows
Nope, it's still not crashed, time to dig out my installation disk...

Hello!
Using a borrowed pc as mine's still dead. I've tried running my HDD on this one but nothing doing, the trouble is I need an ATA133 and I aint got any to try, so I'll be trying to scrounge one tomorrow.
Incidentally, I have a new lambda which turned up in the post this morning. Hmm, which is more important

Re: and today i have mostly been...
Back again. I managed to get hold of another HDD, stuffed it into my machine and it seemed to install WIndows ok but, as I was starting to install all the other programs, I got another BSOD with a familiar "IRQL NOT LESS THAN OR EQUAL" motif
So, it's the HDD and the motherboard - how does all that happen at once? I guess one took the other out as it failed. So I'm still on my mate's machine using this "new" HDD, trying to figure out all the ins and outs of buying a new machine and how I'm going to pay for it all
Meanwhile, I had the yoyo booked in to the guy that's been working on it yesterday, but he wanted it for a few days and the weather forecast started looking a bit grim with coldness and snow, so I decided to cancel it rather than drive the Pug - why have a dog (literally) and bark yourself?
And finally... today I'll be going to see the heam.. heem.. h.. fuggit, blood doctor for more prodding and poking, oh goody
I had another blood test Tuesday and my leucocites (white blood cells) are at their worst yet and obviously need a stiff talking to, the annoying thing is I feel fine!!

Re: and today i have mostly been...
Sorry I missed this thread.
Firstly, how many sticks of RAM are in the machine? And you've tried booting with only one stick in and tested each stick this way? Memory could still be the problem, running memtest86 overnight (lots of passes) will find any errors. You can whack it on any bootable medium, a USB stick is the easiest way if your motherboard supports booting from USB devices.
Your new HDD - was it brand new? If not, it might be worth properly wiping the disk before trying to use it. DBAN is a great utility for this and will properly destroy all data on the disk. Furthermore, if you can get into an operating system long enough you can check the SMART status of the drive(s).
Clearing the CMOS on the motherboard is also usually worth a try - if you look at the motherboard you'll probably seen a small coin cell battery somewhere and next to it, a pair of pins. These can be difficult to find - if you have the motherboard manual to hand that would help a lot. Turn the computer off and short the pins together for a few seconds. This will restore all BIOS settings to default.
It is fairly common for one thing failing to take out another, this is particularly the case with the PSU failing.
I'm sure we can get to the bottom of this - can you post as much detail about the system as you can? Part numbers/identifiers for all components would be great.

Re: and today i have mostly been...
My brother is talking about mailing me stuff, ok stuff here is a fair bit more expensive than the UK but I'm not sure if the cost saving outweighs the risk of sending it through the post, then there's the cost of postage and possible customs to pay on top...
There are 4 sticks of memory in my machine, I took 2 out - BSOD, I swapped them over - still BSOD. SMART said the disk was fine, ancient, dropping selectors but not in need of replacement. This is why I put it in this machine but it didn't even try to boot. So I tried to repair it with the Windows CD but it would fail on the reboot, next I tried re-installing it but it got about 3/4 of the way through and started warning me that the files it was putting on the drive weren't any good.
The motherboard is a http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?M ... ual-880Pro which I've been quite pleased with up until now. The power supply is about a year old. The "new" HDD must be quite old 'cos it had some date in 2001 written on the p/s of the machine I nicked it out of (cheers again Goran
) so I'm not expecting much out of it, I was even surprised it said "UDMA5" when I stuck it in this machine. It's only 40 Gigs so this is about the only use it has left. When I'm done I'll probably leave XP on it as an emergency spare for someone.
To be honest I've been expecting a failure for a few years now and can't really complain, I just couldn't justify replacing it until it did go bang. I was also hoping that maybe things would get cheaper/easier when Croatia joined the E Yew but I guess I'm out of luck.
Regarding the health I have them stumped again
They did find I had a sinus infection last year and stuck me on antibiotics which should have shifted it and the leukocytes did indeed drop almost to the normal range, but in the last few weeks I've been having more and more headaches that start in my sinuses so I suspect that the antibiotics didn't do the job - this was only picked up when they did a general health check on me last June so I might have had this for decades, I reckon those infectoids have been living there for a long time so probably have the place just how they like it and aren't ready to move out without a big fight.

Meh, in the greater scheme of things none of it is that important, apart from my health and I don't think that's anything serious. I can live without a pc (hey, I managed it for years!) and the car is really just a nuisance, it's not dangerous or anything.Welly wrote:what a load of sh*t you're having![]()
