406 insurance !!!!!
Why is 406 insurance so damned expensive,it's that time of year when both my Bmw 530i and the 406 hdi 110 exec insurances are due (bad planning i know),i'm getting quotes back from the usual compare the blah blah etc and theres only a few quid between both cars and sometimes the Bmw comes in cheaper, ridiculous !!!!!

its not just the 406s that are hit hard on insurance,
its other pugs too,
dunno why but peugeots seem to be heavy on insurance,

Also I've noticed that D9s are more expensive to insure than D8s for me

Re: 406 insurance !!!!!
It just don't make sense, the Bmw is over 200 bhp and can do 140+mph and in theory will be driven faster and harder and the price of spare parts to do body repairs is extortionate and the 406 is well a ------------ 406,a very very capable, reasonably cheap to repair,110bhp,etc etc.

Re: 406 insurance !!!!!
im paying just short of 700 quid for the 306,
its only a 1.6, ive got insurance on a 155bhp fiat for half the price and ihad alot less ncb's then,

I insured the new 406 on a 3k a year second car policy for 800 quid. Not bad I thought!

Re: 406 insurance !!!!!
There must be a way to Wangle cheaper car insurance, (honestly but cheakily)
irember when you couid buy something with a 850cc engine insure it for peanuts and then throw a 3.0l or some big lump on the policy as a weekend car,
iguess theyve got wise to that by now tho,

I've got them both on an Aviva multicar policy at the moment and it's not that bad for both as i only have them as SDP as i don't use either for commuting but it's the differential price between them or not as it seems if i were to insure them seperately i can't get my head around.

only time ive got insured with them, was a freebie 7 day drive away policy when ibought the 406 estate off a car dealer,
weird how they can insure anyone but going direct with them was a big no,

Re: 406 insurance !!!!!
About 10 years ago I used to use liverpool victoria for insurance, before they were well known, I had a nova at the time, I changed a few bits and phoned them to get stung but much to my surprise they just said thanks for letting us know, we've updated your policy, so I asked about fitting a GSi engine (1.6), they said a change of engine is £40, for ANY engine change to anything that isn't an identical replacement, shortly after that I had a 2.0 16v red top fitted! I did similar things to other cars but not surprisingly they changed their policies and I couldn't do it anymore, but by then I was old enough and had enough NCB to insure fast cars!lozz wrote:There must be a way to Wangle cheaper car insurance, (honestly but cheakily)

Re: 406 insurance !!!!!
I remember having a Nova SR with a gsi engine in, did a few tweaks as well, and they weren't too bothered.
I also remember when I had a 1.8l Opel Manta (90bhp), which was peanuts to insure. I dropped a 2.0 16v redtop in it on twin 48 webbers(180bhp), ashley zorst, bilsteins, tarox brakes, revolution wheels, 400 bodykit, and all they said was what was the power difference, and I said double. They said they'd just charge me double, but as I said, I was paying peanuts, so at the time it seemed like a bargain for the car I had
However with my 406, did a few bits to it ( never did declare the remap
) and they loaded me as good as double, just to have aftermarket wheels, leather, spoiler and powerflow exhaust.
**edit** oh, and I did mention when I was looking for cheaper insurance for the mondingo didn't I ? Can insure a car worth 8 times as much, for half the price, however, to add the 406 as a second car ( continuous insurance bollocks while I get rid
) and the lowest mileage, even though I ain't going to drive the car, is for 50 miles, and they wanted over £800 !!!!! C**k sucking w*****s grrrr

2nd edit, as apparently the above doesn't seem to come within the parameters of the swear filter
