Steering wheel noise

Post by Ares »

Having some weird problem.
When i turn my steering wheel i can hear some strange noise, exactly like when you wash windows with spounge, you know that sound when going really fast on some glass surfaces
with spounge and it makes that noise.
Steering fluid is ok,plenty of it,turning steering wheel is also ok.
Do i need to grease up something?

Happy new year :D let,the 406 show contiunes

When you hear the noise is it on the inside of the car
or under the bonnet,

ithink if it was the pwr steering pump youd hear it,

I think its on the inside of the steering wheel, almoust exactly the same sound as that one when you clean some glass surface.
Everything is ok,for now with the car, just wanted to know what is producing that sound.

Could be,thanks for reply Lozz.
I didnt even know what or where that squib was and that i have one.
Steering is easy,i can sense some grinding in but that is probably due to worn out Track rod end.

They all have a Rotary/squib or what ever its called,

its a Coiled ribbon in a plastic enclosure, it powers the airbag etc,

the Citroen xsara ihad, Started off with a Rubbing noise of which then turned into a grating noise,
if you listen behind the steering wheel just above the plastic cowling you will hear it if its the Squib

mine makes the sort of noise you're talking about. But to me it sounds like a not quite wet enough sponge rubbinng against a window.

I've use WD40 (very lightly) and hairspray (very lightly) sprayed between the wheel and the bit that that the indicator stalk sticks out of which gives a temporary fix for a few weeks.
