Electric fire for the car, (12v thingie)

Post by lozz »

Back to the Downfall of diesel cars, Topic;

the old frosty morning warmup,

Was thinking of getting one of the 12v electric fire things from halfrauds, but thought id ask first and see if anyone else has tried them,
looking at the size of them wouid they actualy create any warmth, or wouid blowing on your hands have more of an effect,?

was even half tempted at setting fire to the corner of the passenger seat to get warm this morning, (damn you flame retardent material :frown: )

Looks like there's 2 reviews for the one Halfords is selling - it's ok but it has a worryingly bright red light that the guy worries about showing through the windscreen -and- it's better than you'd expect but it wouldn't heat the whole car.

I suspect it's not really going to help much, especially when the temperature drops to minus something daft. You'd probably be better off sitting a domestic fan heater in there so it's not shining on anything that might get cooked and putting it on a timer so it's been running for a while when you need the car. Not much help if your cars parked in the street though, you'd really need to spend a small fortune on something that runs on diesel and warms the engine coolant, some of them have gizmos that will run the heater fan too but then you really are talking a fortune.

That's one thing I like about my Petrol Volvo is that the heater is running at full chat within 3 to 5 minutes, I remember my HDi would take ages to warm the coolant but it had an 'auxillary' electrical heater on the matrix for the cabin - I used to think that worked well.

Don't you have a 13kA socket Doggy? I thought they were standard in homes now?

Tried to work out how big the cable would be. Even a 3phase supply the tables do not go high enough :cry:

It's a 2KA heater. Or 2000W.
You said 2000KW so that would be 2,000,000 watts :lol:

Yeah you where right mate,
there no good, ithink they only good purpose theyd have is, to clear the Mist off a windscreen perhaps those that By-passed there heater Matrix wouid
see some benefit from one, but for warming the full car it wouidnt happen,

the central heating radiator and pipe worked out cheaper than the electric heater thing,

Im not looking forward to the extra cost on the central heating bill, time to hunt for an Arga me thinks
