God I wish I could live with cheap tyres!
Two goodyear efficiant gripts are £240 fitted. But they do last 20k on the front and 30k+ on the back!

I wish i could afford to make decisions like that mate especially as tyres are a big safety issue but the fact that i may not be bringing any cash into the house from Tuesday makes me go for budgets.

I even had one of the old tyres back just in case of punctures etc and it's only got about 5mm on it I'd usually just leave it be recycled.

5mm isn't to be sneezed at, I notice tyres don't seem to start off with a hell of a lot these days anyway. Keep it in the dark

Sorry mate, completely missed that

TBH I try to avoid having the tracking messed with, unless it's had a known bump and / or is suffering obvious wear issues I leave it well alone. In my experience there are very few people out there who can properly align a car

There was a thread on here a while ago about proper 4 wheel alignment (including adjustment of the rears rather than just tracking the fronts and then pointing them at the rears which most garages call 4 wheel alignment but is actually just posh tracking!). I think Welly posted a link about "Hunter" systems was it? The closest one I could find who'd do that was in Aberdare, and I bet that's not cheap.

Straight out the shed mate.

No worries Dai you'd have heard from me somehow by now had i not found someone straight away, my o/s/f had worn quite badly on the outside and that was the only one out when they checked it... After what you said though i have a feeling i had fancy tracking done and not the proper alignment... no harm done anyway all seems fine and i can't argue with the price.

Unfortunately I'm so paranoid I won't drive a hire car without jacking it up and spinning the wheels giving them a good inspection!

Once a week I jack mine and my fathers car up and check all the wheels to make sure all is well.

When I bought my Mondeo I had a brand new Runway Eduro (Cheap budget thing) and a Bridgestone with 6mm on it. Within 2/3 weeks I get rid of them because I was nervous driving on odd tyres!

I've actually had panic attacks due to it before now and start having anxiety. Bloody annoying!

It's called OCD mate  but your not the first and it certainly ain't your fault your just safety minded to the extreme i guess.

I could have just bought the one and ran the other for 6 months or so and saved me money now but with the cold weather coming and my house being at the bottom of a hill that's a bastard to get out of in the snow i wanted a matching pair to at least give me some chance of getting out and doing a moonshine run if need be.

Winter before last i got out every morning in the Xsara when others were stuck til it thawed a little, not sure how the 406 will fair if the snow got that bad.

With a more expensive car now, I think when finances allow i.e. in 16months time when i've paid for this car, i'll buy two decent tyres for my mondeo
It's got Dunlops on the rear, but unbranded on the front
Maybe though once the transfer on my plate has gone through, and I get rid of the 406, then it might be wiser to invest in some better tyres sooner 8)

Mmm, worse than that, a Dunlop on the o/s, and just assumed it was Dunlop on the n/s, but it is in fact a Goodyear, so i've got 3 different makes of tyre on it

Although guess I can't talk as I had 3 different ones on the pug, but that was after 5 years of having the same brand on, and ending up with 3 brands was partially by accident than choice
