Which TV

Post by grasmere59 »

My other halfs TV has finally bit the dust, don't laugh it's a 26" crt tv and not even widescreen! Anyway we went out looking today and came home with a headache as completely baffled as what to get, she's decided on 40"-42" max but what's the best make to get with a budget of approx £300-£400,does she go for LCD,LED or Plasma?,780p,1080p? It's a bloody minefield and i'm no use at all :(

Definatelly a Panasonic, and definatelly a plasma.

Back in December last year I was making the same choice as you. I went for this one after reading lots of reviews and opinions on line.

Panasonic Plasma. ptx42s30b

the powerboard burnt out in it (heatrelated) so ended up on the tip,
the lcds weve had so far havent sufferd with any powersupply problems,

What ever she gets will be stand mounted not on a wall so heat shouldn't be a problem.

We also looked at the Polaroid ones in Asda today but googled them and they don't seem to have any connection with the now defuncked camera firm, the brand name was sold off apparently to some foreign firm or something like that.

Not sure what theyre like in (how long will they last ) but they looked like good value,
never had a problem with Asda stuff, its normaly just a Return and replace with like for like if faulty, so its not too bad,

last tv we bought was from tescos, Techwood or summat the make is, 270quid 6mths back,
theyre clearing them off now at 160quid, :(

I tried to get one of the Aldi ones last time, (they were £279 last year), but they fly off the shelves. You need to be there as the place opens, even then you need to be lucky....

Having failed with that, I got one of the 40" Asda ones for £300 and it's pretty good, (believe they're now £280).

This subject is very raw in my mind, we've just had our Bedroom TV/DVD combo fail but luckily it was still guaranteed.

It was one of those LED TV and Branded 'Celsus' or something (got it from a Supermarket) exchanged it yesterday for a 'Toshiba' thinking it would be better quality and blow me down it is the very same TV - I mean exactly the same

So, my theory is it doesn't really matter what brand you choose as you're likely getting the same component parts as everybody else.

I've also got a Celsus 40" LED HD in the Lounge and the picture in pin-sharp perfect (and it was cheap).

Not sure how desperate she is for the tv but have you tried the offer of the day website? i've done a search for the 40" tv's and the poloroid one lozz mentioned is the fourth one down if you narrow the search to price & p&p lowest.
http://www.offeroftheday.co.uk/search.a ... 0&np=&ref=

Worth keeping an eye on for a day or two it updates every morning i saved £40 on my fridge freezer but i didn't need it for 3 weeks so i could afford to wait.
