The floor mainly there's normally blimp burn holes in the carpet from the old geezers dropping their pipe tobacco and piss stained skid marks from their slippers... If it's an automatic this will only be around the accelerator area.

You don't need 5 seats. Plenty of room for a few bodies in the boot...

The back seat's got a raised compartment in the middle so you really wouldn't want to sit on it

Not that I'm biased but the V40 is a great car Lozz.
Watch out for rusty rear calipers, the hand brake mechanism is built into them and it can seize solid leaving you with no handbrake. Also the bonnet cable is prone to snapping if it isn't cleaned & lubed.
Other than that have a look in the V40 section on the Volvo forum. They're not the friendliest bunch but there is some good info there.

I don't know to be honest mate. Make sure you go for the Phase 2 though, the headlights are complete crap on the phase 1 and it's generally a much better car. Oh another thing to check; apparently they come with mild steel jubilee clips on the bottom rad hose as standard; these are prone to rusting & the hose blowing off  so replace this with a stainless one! There's a thread about it and replacement part no on the forum. There's a guy that does discounts on Volvo parts on there; I forget his name but it comes up quite a lot on there.
