Hi all
First time for me. Been the owner of a 406 HDI 90 estate for 7 years love the car. I have a problem which the guy who works on my car cannot solve. The auto headlight feature activates whenever it wants and I cannot do anything to turn it off so needless to say I have the lights on at bright times during the day. Has anybody please got any idea as to how I can deal with this and turn the feature off.
Thanks

Hi Jim & welcome to the forum.
From your description, I can't tell which of two possible problems you're describing:
1). The 'automatic lighting active' feature is turning itself on periodically
2). You have the above feature active intentionally, but the lights are coming on when they shouldn't
Can you clarify, please?

Now I'm confused, it sounds like not only is the automatic light function turning itself on, it's also switching on the lights in broad daylight

Thanks for the interest. The automatic lighting feature periodically turns itself on I have to turn the lights onto side only to prevent headlights being on. We've tried all of the normal as in turning the feature off but it has a mind of it's own more like an old volvo than anything now. Driving along the headlights come on, I turn the side lights on but then at times the headlight warning light flickers and the headlights start to flash at unsuspecting motorists. Very unsettling at times.
Re: Auto headlight activation HDI 90 estate
I'm not describing this very well;
At any time whilst either stationary or driving the headlights just automatically switch on whether it's dark or bright. I have turned the on/off switch for auto lighting on the stalk to off the lights still come on whenever they so choose. You only notice this during the day as obviously at night-time the lights are on but yes they come on even in the brightest conditions.
Thanks again.

Re: Auto headlight activation HDI 90 estate
Mine decided to randomly turn the automatic lighting function on and off by themselves, (resulting in a 'bong' and 'AUTOMATIC LIGHTING ACTIVE', message on the MFD and just a 'bong' whenever they turned themselves off, (or I did it myself by holding in the button on the end of the indicator stalk for 5 seconds). At no time did the lights come on in daylight.
I reasoned my problem was a faulty COM2000 module, so de-activated the auto lighting function and have had no further problems.
Not sure if you're experiencing something similar, or a different issue altogether?

Similar scenario how did you manage to turn the auto function off? I can't turn it off by the usual method of depressing the button on the end of the stalk.

You need a PP2000, (dealer diagnostic system or clone).
Post your location, maybe someone nearby can help.
